Just went to check-in for my flight tomorrow morning and have noticed that my seat assignment has been changed from 3D to 2D.
Does this by any chance mean that they've moved me in to Business Seating?

What aircraft? Assuming its a 738 then yes, I'd say so.

Irrespective of what aircraft with the exception of an ATR then it is business seating. If it is a route on which J class is not offered such as MEL-LST-MEL then you get the seat but not the service.

Good luck. There are plenty of reports of this happening with Virgin and when you get to the gate you get unceremoniously changed to 27B.

Ended up being in business seating on the way there, and then on the way back received the same seat again.
Certainly can't complain about that.

Great news! Definitely a much better outcome than other reports of the "Virgin up-then-downgrade" scenario.
