Can someone explain to me the seat classes- K J Y etc.I guess this also ties in with status credits and membership levels.

Hi Trudi and welcome to AFF.

Booking classes are a way for airlines to sell different seats in the same cabin for different prices. For example, the economy cabin will have a range of fares from the highest (Y class) to the lowest, N/O/Q classes. And a range in between. The more you pay, the greater availability and flexibility the fare will have. Some of the highest preiced fares in economy will get more status credits. The Qantas points calculator will show the difference (for example, select 'discount' then 'flexible' and you'll see status credits may increase).

The same applies to business and first cabins. Business for example will range from J (highest) through C, D and I (lowest).

Not all airlines use every booking class, but most use ones reasonably the same.

That is great Mel. Thanks for your reply and welcoming wishes. Trying to get my head around all these symbols and letters to enhance my flying experience at a discount rate. That all makes good sense. Much appreciated.
