Flying Melbourne to Perth today on A330. Platinum. Checked in online 23K (front of Y, window). This morning I woke up and my seat has been moved to 25F - two rows back right in the middle. Flight is showing as completely full.

First time this has happened to be and I’m quite shocked and to be honest not at all happy. Any ideas how or why they’d move a platinum without informing them, and to a much worse seat?

Obviously I’ll try to get it changed at the lounge at the airport.

Only thought that comes to mind is the bassinet being required.

Update: the front row seats were not occupied by parents requiring a bassinet or anyone with mobility requirements etc.

Clearly I was bumped from my seat either due to $ being paid for it after I had selected it, or somehow for a person with higher status than Plat.

I will be following up with Qantas.

Likely a P1 or a CLPO
Or maybe someone who got bumped from business (paid or award).

Either way, I’ll contact Qantas and try to pin them down on what circumstances count as “operational reasons”.

Did you confirm you're still on the same a330 type? If it got switched to an a330-300 those don't have 23JK seats.

Edit: after a couple of tries at it, I personally hate a330 Y bulkheads with a passion, so I actually think 23AC and JK are worse than the row behind it. It's part of the reason they don't cost extra money and aren't "extra legroom seats".

Edit 2: Also had another thought. If QF swapped an a330-300 into the slot instead then swapped back, 23JK would lose their seats as well.

There was a huge scandal quite a few years ago (before Covid) of this exact situation happening. It went quiet after that as I think QF stopped bumping pax for P1/CLs. Hopefully that hasn’t started again.

Oh. A bassinet seat was selected?
Dunno which model of 330 it was, but I saw this going out to SIN a few months back. I had 23J (and I _think_ a shadow in K) and they didn't bump me. Saw a couple being shown how to strap the tiny infant in on the mother's lap in the centre bulkhead seats and had to tap the flight attendant on the shoulder asking why she didn't just ask me to move seats.

Lay of the land as far as I'm concerned if I choose a bulkhead bassinet when flying down the back. If little people need it, I fully expect to be shifted.

All good comments. Just to repeat, the passengers who got 23JK did not need a bassinet, so that was not the reason.

The seat map never changed at any stage - 23JK were there all along - so doubt aircraft change could be the reason.

I hope the flight deck navigation system is better than this one. Off the coast around Cape Arid is a bit further than 244km from Perth & will take longer than 17 minutes to cover 😅
