After reading a post here that CX availablility now showed on QF award searches I managed to get my first international flights ever on points in ten years flying QF (thank you for the post Flashware)
My flights out are on CX back on QF, can I put a seat request in for the QF flight even though the booking was made on points?
I am sure somebody here will know the answer.

Look on QF web site "manage your booking" or www.checkmytrip.com to see if you have been auto allocated a seat. You can always phone QF

Yes you can pre-allocate seats on QF by ringing (or in my case just a simple online email) however QF pre-blocks the nicer seats for higher status ff passengers (eg. exit rows, bulkhead and usually the first few rows in economy)

As a Plat, yep no issues with getting a great choice of seats on the Qantas leg.

Ring CX and request for the seats. They treat QFFF members with status very well.

Cheers,

Ric

Thanks for the help. I will give Qantas and Cathay a call.
Note that being a QF WP, you'll get almost straight through to Qantas when calling them. Cathay Pacific in Oz is another matter. If you call CX, be prepared to wait for some time ~15-~45 minutes before being answered.

I have fond it simpler to email them using aus_sales @ cathaypacific.com, specifying your details, CX's booking reference if you have it and your seating (and other requests) request. You generally get an emailed response withing ½ a working day.

Also note that CX do not generally preallocate seating until 6 months before a flight.
