Seat selection on QF31/32

I'm booked on QF31 in J on 16th June, and QF32 also in J on 27th June. Have a question about seat selection that is baffling me a little.

In Qantas.com.au seat selection, the closest seat to the front I can select is 19F on QF31, and 20F on QF32.

What's strange is that now that I have put my QFF # in ExpertFlyer (SG status) it says I should be able to select 16A or 16B on QF31, and 16A or 17D or 17F on QF32.

Is this possibly because my QFF status was PS when the flights were booked? Any ideas would be most appreciated!

As a side question, I'm thinking row 16 is the best place to be for an SG who can't select rows 11/12/13. Am I right in thinking this? I would rather a window seat but don't like the idea of having to climb over someone to get out - does row 16 overcome this problem?

Also any ideas on chances of upgrade to F on either leg? I'm not seeing any international QF award buckets coming up on ExpertFlyer but from Googling around it sounds like this might be because EF doesn't show QF award buckets any more?

With respect to your qeustion regarding difference in seats available, when you made the booking did you put in your QFF number? If your status changed from the time of booking until now, you should be able to change your seats to anything else available (save for those reserved for WP flyers) at this stage.

I take it you have tried to go online and change your seats?

As to the problem with window seats, having to climb over a passenger is a old 747 issue, and redundant with the A380. I am not a 'small' guy, but had absolutely no difficulty in going from my window seat to the aisle seat in J without disturbing the aisle passenger - and that was even with his seat in lie flat mode.

So overall, I wouldn't worry in this particular matter.

Enjoy your flight - I always do on the A380 (hate going back to the 747s).

Your seating options change when your status changes. I often see differences in expertflyer seat maps and qantas seat maps. I'm not entirely sure about the reasons.

I've flown out of SYD to LHR on a mid-week flight (and also a weekend flight) and scored the upgrade lottery win to F; and the same when returning from LHR on a Monday. Of course, never a guarantee, but as I've said, have managed it nearly every time (and that was in flying over 3-4 times a year for the past 3 years.

I flew QF31 and 32 recently, but just SIN-LHR-SIN. When I moved up from PS to SG, there was no discernible difference in available seat selections. At T-80, some seats on QF31 in rows 11-13 became available, but as we were hoping the ILs would be upgraded to J from Y+, I chose to stay in the main J cabin.
I put the available seat selection down to the number of other SG or WP pax on the flight with pre-selected seats.

On both legs, we managed to get the ILs upgraded to J, and they were seated both times in 16 EF (I think? the middle seats). IIRC, row 16 at eash side has the basinettes on the A380, so these seats would not be selectable until T-80/T-24, if at all. There's a bit of galley and toilet noise/light in those seats.
We were grateful for the extra J space in the A380 when my FIL got sick, and ended up with 2 FAs, 1 doctor, and DH gathered around him in seat 16F. And then the nosy J pax trying to see what was going on in his seat as they would come back to their seat from the loo.

ajca .... the girlfriend and I are also on QF31 on the SYD-SIN leg only. we are both WPs and if you don't have access to the SYD F Lounge, we can guest you (and a +1) if you want. (unfortunately we are stuck in economy)

Alanslegal, that's a very kind offer! Have never experienced the F lounge before so that would be awesome. Will PM you.

Katie, thanks for the very useful info. Will wait till T-80 and try to allocate from 11/12/13. Not thrilled about the idea of being near a screaming baby in 16!

medhead, that's what I thought, was just interested to see that the available seats didn't change at all when I went from PS to SG.

I stuffed up, I missed the point that you were in J. I was only thinking about Y.

Just had a look at the seat map and you should be able to get 16A both ways as Gold. Give QF a buzz and ask them to change the seats for you if you can't do it online.
