Hey guys,
Got a rewards redemption booked through Qantas on a Qatar plane. I can't see how to select seats.
On the Qatar website it says "Please select your seat at check in."
Does that mean that I cannot select a seat?
Thanks

Try Manage My Booking on rj.com
I've tried that but it doesn't work.
I get the following error message:

  • One of your seat requests cannot be confirmed. It can be due to a missing or invalid Frequent Card. (4636)
  • Your service selection contains unavailable service(s). (119225)
But my frequent flyers card is in there (!?!)

Have you received an itinerary with a ticket number?!
Yes I have

You can also try through QR's own website, although from memory there can be issues logging in related to FF numbers so might not work given above.

Are there any errors showing on the QR site and are all personal details recorded? Seat selection should be under Manage Trip in the sidebar for your booking. I used Malaysian from memory.

I was able to do it through logging on with my Qantas reference number and surname on Qatar website
I tried the Qatar website again and no dice - unable to select seats. Same story in the app.

I called Qatar who advised me that I am able to request seats ONLY at check-in. They could see seats available but where unable to select them on my behalf. They were not sure why.

I'm not sure if a policy has changed recently in regards to this (?) Has this been yet another 'enhancement'?

This doesn't seem to be a widespread problem so I wouldn't jump to conclusions that it's an "enhancement."

Does your itinerary have USA destinations on it? If so, there could be a problem with your APIS data causing this kind of issue. Check you have entered all of the "day of travel" information correctly.

Is it just you or 2 or more?

If you have a free EF account, you can also check the seat map there.

Edit: or post the flight number/date and one of us can post the seat map.

A long shot but try Manage Booking on Cathay Pacific. - this worked for me.
You'll probably only be offered the option to select seat preferences ie. aisle or window. When you do that it will come back with seemingly random seats selected according to your preference - probably not even in the same row if there's 2 or more of you!

Anyway once that has happened you'll have allocated seats that you can then change to ones you actually want on another OneWorld website such as rj.com.

I did this to successfully to select a pair of QSuites that I wasn't able to select on any of the other OW sites.

In the past I've selected QR seats at finnair.com or rj.com but that seems to have changed recently, unless the problems I had were a "one-off". We flew FRA - DOH and DOH - KUL with QR in J on a QF OWA just over 2 weeks ago and the seat selections I made quite a few months ago had disappeared when I checked a few days before our flights. I tried both rj.com and finnair.com but got the same message at both saying that seat selection was not available through their portal.
Couldn't select seats at the QR site either and eventually had to do check-in at FRA airport and take the seats we were allocated. Didn't get the seats we wanted but at least we were seated together.

This could be the norm going forward, i had 3 QR flights booked in May which i was able to select seats for but the 4th (which was booked in June) - i was unable to do so despite trying QR live chat and contacting them via twitter. Ultimately this resulted in me and wife sitting apart on that 4th flight as we checked in last and had to take the two seats left as the flight was full

All the flights were in September

It’s just for one person.
the website has some really weird behaviour… now I can see a seat map on the Qatar website but only for the first leg. And that leg only shows *one* seat available which happens to be the exact same seat I flew in when I flew over to Europe. This particular seat is an aisle seat with a broken door which wont stay open.

it seems that Qatar might be allocating specific seats to rewards redemptions. Does that sound crazy?

Hey guys just finished my trip wanted to report back:

It was a six flight itinerary and at no point did I have any seat selection option. In addition to the Qatar website, RJ website, Qatar app and Qatar call centre I also asked at the checkin desks and at the lounge. No dice. One agent told me that there were other vacant seats available but they were 'reserved' (?) for unspecified reasons.

Based on my experience it would seem that Qatar has disabled seat selection for reward redemptions, at least for flights entering/exiting Europe. In my six flights Qatar appeared to be allocating Qsuites reward seats to the last business row in the aisle. The staff I spoke to did not have the power to change this.

I was hoping for a window seat to take some photos so initially I was a little disappointed, but hey the Qsuites are still excellent and by far and away the best seat I've ever used on a plane.

Amusingly I did manage to get a window seat for a flight because I was shuffled vacate for a family that wanted the double bed arrangement. Clearly someone has the power to shift seats around to make requests happen. And two of my flights were almost completely empty, and yet I still could not select seats. But the friendly cabin crew were happy for me to sit where I wanted.

tldr; no seat selection with Qatar
