Over the last few flights, a couple of things have become very noticeable:
  1. At booking, I generally have access to row 6 - I choose 6A or the equavilent seat on 767
  2. At a day or so out from the flight, 4 or 5A (or the equavilent) become available with BC or DE taken if Im looking at 4F (Forward window is my preference)

I usually take the row 4 seat and hope for no neighbor.

Since the 12 FEB (First time I started to take notice) I have not had a seat neighbor except by choice! I have generally been flying peak times on high volume routes as well.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Is Qantas really lifting its game for the WP's?

BTW, BNE/MEL 5am flight - 4A no neighbour

When seated in row 4 I have usually had a shadow sitting beside me on the EF seat map, which moves with me as I change seats, I suspect the system has been programmed to provide space for WPs where possible. This used to be manually done by the QP many years ago but was subject to being overridden.

I have experienced this on international flights in Y+ and Y, but only in this calendar year.

I havent had a free seat next to me in a lonnnnng time :(

I was going to say you could sit next to me because seems to be quite frequent for me......but that would rather defeat the purpose!!:p

I think I have been luck recently because flights were not that full.

The check in agent at LHR made a point of telling me that the seat next to me was blocked from my last LHR-MEL flight, so I do wonder if QF is looking to satisfy WP's. (Probably just dreaming!)

Credit to trippin_the_rift for pointing this out to me last night.

I booked a QF flight this morning for next Wednesday, and although I couldn't see a shadow following my select, I was able to select an exit row seat :D

I have noticed that blocked seats next to me seem to be more common. A few weeks back I flew PER - SYD in row 23 - first row of the the 767 "mini cabin". The check in kiosk before boarding showed every seat in the mini cabin as full, but actually there were only 2 solo pax and one couple. Flight looked round 75% full.

I generally sit in a row 4 aisle on the 738 and while I don't use EF, if I ask at the SYD J lounge they will generally tell me if the middle seat has a pax or is "blocked" - ie not available for check in with the phantom sitting there.

After reading the first post, I can imagine a new thread being started soon in the DJ section - high status memebers no longer get a free middle seat next to them.

I've not had a blocked shadow for a long time.

Been a little disappointed actually.
(not that i expect unpublished benefits).

OTOH - a few recent flights on AA have produced a 100% rate of shadow following me in the Y cabin.
Quite a pleasant surprise and thumbs up for AA :)

I am SG but on flights from KTA-PER on 738 i asked at the counter for a J upgrade the lady told me not to waste my points and that she would block the seat next to me...

I had the whole row to my self and the plane was about 96% full :D
