What aircraft do SQ use CNS to SIN direct?, and comfort of Y and J seats?

Max-8, 10 business seats 2x2, 1x1, 2x2.

I took this route in 12B last month - pretty good.

As for economy, I did fly between SIN and KUL in May and realised it was a Max8 on boarding. The Economy seats were unremarkable for what they are.

Economy is standard 3-3 layout for the 737. Good lie-flat J seats though - well worth the upgrade if you can book J. :)

Row 1 on the 73M (SQ designated ‘row 11’) has very wide footwells.

Also tried economy from HKT to SIN… highly recommend the exit row. Heaps of legroom. The non-exits looked fairly cramped. Because of the $30 charge for exit rows they remained empty except for the two of us (we took one side of three each and had a great flight, just enough length to lie down for a quick nap). The rest of the plane was around 95%, only a few open seats.

SIA are at the moment asking for SG$111.30 per person for our booked SIN-DRW flight in Jan next year for exit row 49. 😑

Ouch! The $30 for the regional HKT-SIN was expensive for what it was… the fare itself was only $120. But it was worth it.

I should add on our CNS-SIN flight while J was only 4/10, economy was 100% loaded. Six hours in a standard economy seat might not have been pleasant, especially on a narrow-body with single aisle and those new tiny WCs. There is literally nowhere to go and stretch your legs.

Flights CNS to SIN return be May 2023, used to go J before pandemic on Qantas long haul, prices in J bit rich and two of us oldies for these flights, might look at Alaska miles when on special then be each around $3000. Does SIN allow offers Y to J at gate?.

Singapore airlines has two or three options to upgrade but it's done online as part of the manage booking process. Our short haul flight from coughet to Singapore never became eligible for a points or dollar upgrade. There was nothing being offered proactively at the airport counters.

Using air Canada aeroplan would be 45000 points per passenger one-way which is about $900 for business class or $1,800 return. That would also include domestic connections on Virgin in business class from as far away as Melbourne.

Have you looked at the cost of buying Aeroplan points during a sale?

If so what would total points be and cost?
You’d need to buy 45000 points each, doubled to 90000 if you want a round-trip. Or just 45000, doubled to 90000 if it’s 2 x one way.

The cost is CAD35 per 1000 points, then you get 100% bonus. So total CAD1575 for the 45000, ending up with 90k. Current exchange rate is .8982, so works out to AUD1753. Plus minimal taxes, IIRC CAD100 or something (no fuel surcharges or carrier charges).

Oh… I’ve just seen there’s a current promo, but only offering 85% bonus. These seem to alternate with the 100% bonus promos. More details here from Lucky at OMAAT: Air Canada Aeroplan Selling Points With 85% Bonus
That will increase the price a bit. But still cheaper than alternatives I think, especially if connecting from other cities on the east coast as you can fly Virgin business class as part of the fare to connect.

(I think it works out to just over 2c each aussie under the 85% deal, so approx $900 one way, per person, plus tax)
