I wasn't sure if I should post in the Virgin or United thread, I booked the flights via the VA website but they are on United planes.

I selected our seats but upon looking just now I have noticed our seats for our outbound flight have been changed.
We have been given "preferred" seats which normally cost $33 - $44 more per seat.
This would be fine however the group has been split up with us on opposite sides of the aircraft instead of in front and behind like I prefer with the two kids.
If I go to change this I am being asked to pay for the preferred seat change which I don't want to pay for.

I can go to the back of the plane again but I am wondering why they would do this to begin with? Why change our seats?
Flights aren't until November (SYD-LAX)

I would phone the VA Call Centre to assist in changing the the seat allocation. See what they can do.

Thankyou. do you think they could help? When I try to change seats on the VA website it says I need to contact United as it's a United flight.

Yes, but I thought that VA may be able to go into the booking and do some magic. There’s no harm in talking to them. You may end up having to deal with UA, however.
