Flying SYD - PER on 767 tomorrow. During the week I had selected an exit row seat in row 34, but when I went to OLCI this afternoon my allocated seat was 24F. (first row of Y - this is a non "mini cabin" 767).
All of exit rows 34 & 35 are now not available, and interestingly my new seat 24F wasn't available for selection previously. Maybe the system decided its choice was a better seat and moved me there as a WP? All a bit odd - any thoughts?

Seems a bit odd, but have found exit row to be a burden anyway, dad selected it as a PS but when using NGCI was told he’d need to see someone to be verified, staff didn’t want to help and said gate staff could do it, and when he got to the gate, the staff there had to phone a service desk to OK it, so it all seems a bit too much trouble :p

You’re lucky in other words ;)

Was there perchance an equipment change between you allocating your seat and OLCIing? Were the before and after seat maps identical?

There's a few seating configurations for the 763; does not take much to cause a seating regeneration.

Perhaps I'm being cynical, but my guess is that another pax without QFF status, or a NB, was willing to pay the $40 for that seat. Maybe the payment option overrides the preference offered to QFFs with status. At least you were moved to the next best (arguably) seat available. Just a hypothesis...

I don't think there is a charge for seating in the exit row ( or for any seat selection)on QF domestic for any passengers. The seats available for selection are dependent on FF status. The charge is for international flights.

Interestingly when I enquired at the J lounge in SYD I was told the exit row aisles were still available. But on this particular QF 763 config, 24F is an aisle seat in the centre, row 23 is the bulkhead and there is no 23F so there is unlimited leg room. Much better than the exit row and arguable the best Y seat other than perhaps 25B.
As an aside, I almost had to give it up. The couple in row 23 in front of me had a baby and a toddler and before takeoff the CSM came and told them that there is a new CASA rule that there cant be 2 infants in one row & asked mum to swap with me. Needless to say I wasn't happy about losing my unlimited legroom and sitting next to dad and toddler, nor were couple happy about having to sit in separate seats.
The CSM solved it by putting mum in the enclosed crew seat so I could return to 24 F - but insisted that we swap seats to obey the no 2 infant rule for landing.
OT I know, but something to note if you plan on traveling with 2 infants.

Unless you wanted to argue that Qantas took $20 from an NB to preselect, overriding the free choice of status. But even that seems laughable.

I had two 738 services booked for tomorrrow, pre allocated 4F and 13C (exit, no row 4 available).

OLCI today, both A/C changed to 734's. My 4F is gone with no replacement seat, and my 13C was kept, however row 13 is not an exit row on the 734! Tentatively now sitting in 5F for each (so no biggie on the 734).

After going months without missing out on a row 4 seat, over the last 6 weeks it has been a bit hit and miss (even ended up in row 27 after QF cancelled my outbound flight and didn't make the adjustments to stop my return from being automatically cancelled!)

After being mildly singed by this occurrence once, I am now in the habit of checking my seat allocations for upcoming flights weekly - and rather more frequently than that in the T-80 window. ;)
