Hi Guys,

I'm looking to get from the US to Asia in May 2018.

I can see availability for 1 passenger from SFO - HKG, but as soon as I try two, it comes up with waitlist.

When I view the seat maps I can see J is 10% or less occupied on the flights I am interested in (I know this shouldn't be a good indicator).

Just wondering if anyone has experience booking 1x ticket, then immediately booking another ticket, instead of trying to waitlist the two individual tickets?

As you say, seat map is no indicator of how busy the flight is.

The booking tool is assuming both pax want to fly together on the same flight. So with only one seat available, it will be an 'all or nothing' response from the system.

You can book the one seat, but whether the waitlist clears for the other seat - now on a separate booking - is anybody's guess (it may not).

Thanks - I'll probably go with SQ then :)
