SFO - SYD Upgrade

Can anyone help here?

I'm flying back from SFO to SYD next month on the final leg of a OneWorld Global Explorer ticket.

Can anyone tell me how many QFF points I would need to go for an upgrade from Economy to Bus?

From what i understand...

Depending on your fare type, it is possible for 72000 points (econ -> Bus). You must register for the upgrade before hand though, and you will only get charged the points if the upgrade goes through.

I haven't tested this though, would be interested in others' thoughts.

Oneworld Global Explorer tickets book into L class - which is Discount Economy for purposes of upgrading and status credit earning.

To upgrade from Discount Economy to Business will cost 72,000 points. You can request the upgrade by going to 'manage your booking' at qantas.com

You are correct - it doesn't take the points until you are actually upgraded. Make sure you still have enough points that day, and don't change your PIN between the request and the day of departure...
