I need to 3 nights in early July in Shanghai, and given my loyalty to SPG and as a SPG Gold member I'm keen to try one of the many options they have here in Shanghai.

Is anyone familiar with the Hongta Hotel Pudong? Apparently a former St Regis now in the Luxury Collection, it supposedly includes butler service and is pricing at the dates I want for 688RMB/night under the 'Bring ur Washingtool' promotion which means no bath amenities but 2 buffet breakfasts included. What's the location like?

Alternatives include (this is just from SPG Preferred Guest website - will ask Amex Plat Desk and a Virtuoso adviser for more options):

Four Points Pudong - 750RMB room only
Le Royale Meridien - 1144RMB room only
Four Points Daning - 600RMB room only
Sheraton Hongkou - 810RMB room only
Twelve at Hengshan - 1200 RMB room only
Sheraton Pudong Residence - 1125 RMB room only

The Hongta deal is starting to look pretty good - I'm no greenie but that's a big saving for merely having to bring one's own shampoo.

I haven't stayed at the Hongta, but have stayed a few times at the Doubletree Pudong (on Yanggao Sth Rd, close to Lancun St Metro Station).

The price is good, particularly for SPG; apart from the HHonors points the price of the SPG properties is one of the main reasons I've stayed at the Doubletree. From the website and TripAdvisor it certainly gets good reviews.

Location wise it's easy walking distance to Century Avenue Metro Station; Line 2 will get you to and from PVG or SHA airports, Hongqiao or Shanghai Railways Stations, the Bund and Downtown so you have pretty well all bases covered.

If you do stay, please do a review on here as I'd probably consider it for next time I'm in Shanghai.

Our company has a corporate rate; 800 RMB + taxes.

Doesn't include internet or breakfast, but as Diamond I get those anyway.

I had difficulty getting the SPG website booking engine to give me that rate again. It finally did but it will only let me check-out on the 7th, and not the 8th as it did previously. Will try emailing GM to see if he is willing to just extend for me manually.

Iso are you wed to SPG? Sofitel Hyland has a great special going right now - pay 2 / stay 3 - just booked a stay June 7 to 11 for a staff member - not a great Sofitel fan and have not stayed here for 7 years but this deal looks very good - and it is fabulous location right on Nanjing Lu - http://www.sofitel.com/gb/booking/rates.shtml?packId=15387954676

Good tip - not wedded to SPG per se, but I appreciate the free internet and sometimes upgrades that I receive. That's a great offer from Sofitel actually, no breakfast though unlike Hongta.

I also checked Qantas Hotels and they are offering Pudong Intercontinental for A$398 total for the 3 nights room only - has anyone tried this property?

Maybe that link did not work - sorry bout that - actually booked 3 nts on executive floor incl bf x 2 each day / lounge access / free wifi etc for USD444 - a search will bring it up.

Just got a reply from the Hongta GM - shows there's never any harm in asking - agreed to give me the 688RMB promotion for the Sunday night even though it is officially only a 2 night promotion. Sofitel offer is good but this time I won't pay an extra US$100 for lounge access and shampoo. But I will keep the Sofitel in mind for future visits!

Good work!
+1 to Fantic 125's request for a review after your stay.

Staying at Hongta in mid-June inbound HKG, then moving onto Hilton Shanghai.
Will do a review.

Gold in both programs...

The Hilton Shanghai is nice as well, but certainly more expensive (particularly in the restaurants!).

I've stayed there twice, but unfortunately both times it was late night arrivals and early morning departures.

Looking forward to see what both of you think of the Hongta.
