I've got a Helsinki-Singapore (Finnair Business) and Singapore-Melbourne (Qantas Economy) award flight booked for mid November (on one ticket). I've now seen that the Helsinki flight has been changed and instead of having a ~2 hour layover, I now only have 45 minutes.
Assuming the first flight is slightly delayed will I have issues with Qantas putting me on the next day flight. Have read several issues here but seeing as I'm flying with Qantas for the last leg, I'm hoping it should be ok?
Also will they cover my hotel costs for that night?

Has your flight been re-ticketed after the time change? You should have received an e-ticket itinerary with new ticket numbers. If not sure, check on rj.com or checkmytrip.com and see if the ticket numbers show there. It's possible that this is below the minimum connection time (MCT) for the airport/airline combination; I don't know what it is for your itinerary but for Singapore Airlines it's 50 minutes, so that connection wouldn't be allowed for SQ. If the connection is invalid it won't be ticketed and you'll need to contact Qantas to get it fixed (and be careful that the outsourced call centres don't inadvertently cancel your Finnair flight and lose your award seat!)

Are you flying on AY 131 arriving 6:55pm connecting to QF 36 departing 7:40pm? There is also QF82 to SYD at 8:05 pm but that's not much more time, and getting the call centre to switch you might be difficult.

It looks like this change for HEL-SIN AY131 is probably going to affect a lot of people who had planned on making similar connections... bummer.

Yes I received an updated ticket and all flights are confirmed.

Yep flying on both those flights, I saw that Sydney one but don't think it's worth the effort contacting Qantas for an extra 20 minutes transit time. I had major issues at the airport a few months ago when I called Qantas to change my flights due to a flight time change which meant I would miss the connection, and when we arrived at the airport the second flight wasn't ticketed.

The MCT for AY to QF at SIN seems to be 90 minutes or possibly 60 minutes if inside same terminal. 45 minutes appears to be an illegal connection.

I would still check on rj.com or checkmytrip.com as previously mentioned to ensure you have an e-ticket number.

Confirmed and Ticketed are two different statuses and it is important to ensure you are fully ticketed, which comes after being confirmed. Confirmed in airline speak doesn't really mean much unfortunately, it's being ticketed that counts. As you mentioned you had a problem with this in the past. It's easy to verify using one of those sites. Unfortunately, Qantas themselves doesn't show the e-ticket number in their MMB page.

On Checkmytrip each flight has confirmed under booking status and each flight is also provided with an E-ticket number.

Most definitely at least 60 minutes and likely 90 mins.

So what are my options? Call Qantas get them to put me on the next day's flight or just hop I make the connecting flight and if not get put onto the next days flight?
I'm assuming if I get Qantas to change the flight now, I'll need to pay for the hotel?

My friend was ticketed AY-QF on the same route in business class earlier this year. They had a one hour connection which was legal. Their finnair flight landed five minutes late and qantas had already offloaded them and put them on the jetstar flight leaving slightly after the qantas one.

Needless to say 55 minutes was plenty of time to transit/transfer Singapore, but too late as they had already been moved. Not happy as there’s a significant difference between jetstar and qantas business!

So yeah, you’ll need to call qantas, point out the connection time is not valid, and ask alternatives. They may want to out you on jetstar.
