I have become increasingly frustrated with my iPad 2 following the meltdown of my old PC and its replacement with a laptop. So many issues.

So I thought that I would give the iPad to my husband (who wants it) and buy myself a Samsung Galaxy Tab 64 Gb Wi-Fi. The one which has just been released in Australia after a court case with Apple.

I am travelling to Asia including Singapore and Hong Kong, leaving on Monday.

So my question is, should I buy it
  1. in Perth tomorrow or Sunday and get the 10% GST refund
  2. in Singapore or Hong Kong
  3. wait until I get back at the end of January?
Any suggestions?

IMHO buy it in Australia because if you have any warranty issues the product was purchased here.

If you want to buy it overseas make sure it has an international warranty so if anything happens you can get warranty in Aust.

If you don't care about the warranty buy it from where eve it is cheaper.

The markets in HKG will have many but some will be copies but will look like but won't be it as the software will be flawed and the product quality will be poor.

I looked at an i pad in HKG and it was not as good as my i pad but it did have the Apple logo on the back.

I bought my partner the new Samsung Galaxy Tab for Christmas and he loves it. He couldn't wait to pack up the iPad and put it on the market lol.

I paid just under $600 for the 16GB wifi through Harvey Normans and unless you plan on storing a lot of movies and music then I wouldn't invest in the 64GB version (32GB isn't available in Australia they told me).

As to whether you buy one OS, that depends on how much cheaper it is but most importantly, ask whether Samsung offer an international warranty. If not, buy it here otherwise if anything goes wrong you'll end up spending what you saved on getting it fixed, and then some.

I bought an iPad in HKG a few months ago, the Samsung Galaxy wasn't released there at the time, but I wanted it... I saved about $100 compared to buying it duty free in Oz. I used that money to buy accessories, and have loads of change. Accessories for tablets are so cheap in HKG. Check out the Golden Computer Centre in Sham Shui Po for accessories and I bought the iPad will shopping around between the reputable big store in Mong Kok.

Enjoy!
