Hi,

Have only just joined this forum, so forgive me if this is a stupid question.

I currently have Platinum FF with Qantas, and have done for the past 3 or 4 years - so have qualified for lifetime silver status. I've already re-qualified for another year of QP, but am starting to get more and more annoyed with their service.
I'm based in Jakarta and I (and my wife) do 3 business class trips back to Syd, and 1 Business class trip to Europe per year and will do for the next few years. Also spend >$100,000 on credit card per year. Currently, combined with my wife, we have >700,000 QFF points.

Based on this, considering status, points etc, would it be worth my while to move to Krisflyer.
We usually use points for family to fly internationally.
If I've missed details, let me know.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to AFF morgs. If wanting to switch over to Star Alliance I would recommend at crediting PPS credits to SQ (if flying Singapore Airlines on these trips) and then crediting the actual miles to one of the other *A programs.

Some of the other people on here who fly *A carriers could provide a little more insight for you.

Hello Morgs,
We have both QF and Kris and we are very happy with both.
Westpac Platinum Kris flyer credit card is a bargain in that you get 2 cards being a point a dollar Visa and a point and a half Amex card. You can load these cards into a large credit balance to pay any large bill that exceeds your credit limit.
The problem can be not having enough points to do what you want because you have split loyalty. In your case that wont be such an issue after a year.
Kris is a long way easier to get redemption flights in J or F but the booking fees are a chunky amount.
Lastly Kris points expire after 3 years! Currently QF dont expire unless you go inactive.

The main issue I see here is the OP is based in CGK so may not have much use for an Australian issued credit card.

Yes Westpac Kris Flyer is not a card I would use on anything outside Australia as the fees are not competitive.

No problem with using Aussie credit card as most large purchases (like business class flights) are in USD, so I get stung with currency charges regardless.
How difficult is it to get status on Krisflyer? Similar to QFF?

Status had been a very low priority in our family on either system until the Mrs lost her seat selection on QF because of all the J and F flights on classic points.
We ran up millions of points on Kris but none from flying so I don't know if status really matters on SQ. Flight availability on points has been fantastic even though we are status nobodies with SQ.

If only flying SQ on points and in the premium cabin, then who needs status anyway! :)

Yes Flashware we don't seem to be handled differently despite the lack of status. The premium cabin on SQ is really good.

I (and my wife) do 3 business class trips back to Syd,

SQ seems to be the "home" carrier for many expats in Jakarta as well as more well off Indonesians. I guess the question is given you are travelling back to SYD, is it worth the extra 3-4 hours total travelling time each way to go via SIN to get to SYD (it may well be, given that you will get fully flat beds via SIN vs only ever going to get angled skybeds on the A330, and you have ).

You will struggle to get PPS with the flight pattern mentioned (from what I work out it is around $22K SGD spend), but should just get to krisflyer gold based on mileage (but easily get there if credited to some other star alliance programs). But if flying in premium cabins anyway, not such a big deal.

As for mileage, I have found KF easier to use for redemptions than QF, particularly at relatively short notice and waitlisting for awards also comes in handy, although taxes can be high. From CGK, I guess it opens up a lot more options for redemptions than QF does.
