I did a car hire a couple of months ago in the UK. When I arrived home I checked the account in more details and noticed I had been charged a fuel fee even though I had filled at the airport about 100 metres from the rental return area. For best practice these days I take pictures of the rentals before and after hiring which also includes a picture of the instruments showing the fuel indicator.
Anyway, here I am two months later finally satisfied that they refunded the fuel charge. BUT is that enough? There is no downside for car rental companies, they apply the charges and hope they don't get challenged. If they are challenged they are no worse off and are probably better off as they have reaped the rewards of the charges they imposed without being found.
Maybe I am paranoid but in my limited rental usage they also try on 'toll' charges.
Anyone else have similar experiences?
