I'm interested to hear about your experiences for existing Amex cardholders on their successes on receiving the sign on points bonuses. My understanding is that the terms of these offers state that they exclude existing Amex cardholders but have heard and read that some people have had the points given to them anyway.

For those who have been successful, it would be great to hear when this occurred (for relevance), what additional steps they took (if any), what card it was and how many points.

PS. My apologies if this exists somewhere already in the discussion board but I couldn't find a central location for this

Sorry, just found a thread which covers the same thing but cannot link as I am a new member (thread title "Previous Card holder - Anyway of still getting sign on bonuses")

For those interested in a summary: a number of people reported receiving the reports despite holding one or more Amex issued cards, although a few did not. No clear indication whether disclosing your existing Amex card in your application increased your chances of success. However, an option is to apply anyway and if you do not receive the points after the relevant criteria, contact Amex to cancel and they should refund the annual fee (or at least pro rata it)

I'm not sure of the exact wording, but I think they generally process it based on not being a customer for that particular card type you're applying for. I've always got the sign on points when adding a different card type.

For example, if you currently have a Platinum Reserve card and apply for an Amex Qantas card you would probably still get the points. If you applied for a second Reserve card though you wouldn't.
