Has anyone had any experience with DJ granting status upgrades where a member just falls short of the upgrade threshold? I'm less than 100 points short...

I was given Gold in my first year as a Velocity member, despite being around 1500 points short. I didn't expect it, and had already worked out how I would approach them demonstrating that I would have made it despite a 2 week hospitalisation! I didn't need to!

Their complimentary upgrade worked....have earnt Gold ever year since!:D

That is good. I'm looking forward to my switch to virgin.

I’d ordinarily suggest sending a note to the Virgin Blue representative on here for an official answer, but as you’re a new member, you can’t yet. I’ll send one for you and see if they can give an official response in this thread.

VA have now changed all 4 flights for us in 2011 (and before I grabbed travel insurance). One flight is changed by a whole day and one by about 6 hours earlier than we booked. Connecting flights are now changed, and there's a prepaid night in a hotel going to waste.

Can I suggest VA do something to retain loyal customers?

We're only on VA twice a year since VA's first flights but our friends on Qantas laugh at us for supporting Qantas' competitor. Silver would be nice, vouchers to a VA Lounge or anything would be nice, and might be good for business too.

Whilst I understand your frustration with the flight changes, these are most likely as a result of the now approved alliance between Virgin Blue and Etihad.

Whilst there will be some short term pain, I believe the long term gain for us as Virgin Blue Frequent flyers will be significant. The opportunities to fly to Singapore, Abu Dhabi and onto Europe, on Eithad or V Australia, and receive benfits of Lounge Access for Gold etc is a significantly better option than existed 3 months ago.

Yes ....there are probably ways that things can be handled, but I think we need to recognise that we are now seeing a number of improvements in the opportunity for International recognition of our loyalty to Virgin Blue.

To that end I will continue to support them, not blindly, but with an understanding that sometimes for improvement to happen there needs to be some pain.

Have you talked to V Australia to look at any other options?

All they'll offer (or threaten us with??) is a flight via Sydney.

Its really no big deal though. This is the first of many club trips, for a group where the grandparents founded many internationally known Aussie brands. In the future our private club's group tours will be organised with our sponsor, Travelplan. We'll probably fly Qantas like the rest of our party are this time.

Shouldn’t the last 3 posts have been a separate thread? I’m not sure how they relate to the actual threads topic!

Could a Moderator perhaps split it? :)

There's an old thread on your question. Iirc no one was given an upgrade unless the convinced velocity to alter their enrolment date so sc's could be recalculated.
