Hell All,
Long time reader, first time post.
I am a Silver QFF at the moment, (which expires on 30 Nov this year). Will most probably be getting Bronze again, but looking at going to Berlin from Sydney/Perth in December. Sould a spend the extra money and get a RTW ticket. Or not bother and just get a return from Austalia to Germany.
So, first question is.
Is it possible to go from Bronze to Gold (Qantas OW) on a single RTW ticket? I do a fair bit of flying, but am just short of getting Gold.
Secondly, if l write to Qantas and explain to them that l will be doing a RTW trip with them, will they be good natured and allow me to add these SC onto my silver. l have read that some people have done this.
Please just throw all comments back, as l am looking at booking this ticket soon.
Cheers
PS, l did have QC Corportate membership last time l went to Europe, which was great as l had a 10 hour transit @Heathrow.

So, seems that if l go Sydney, Heathrow, Berlin and return and do it with AA l should be able to get AA Platinum (under the AA Platinum challenge). Much easier to get than Qantas Gold.
Anyone else have views on this?

You will have to go via the USA as will have to be on AA flight number in order to complete the challenge. There is no AA codeshare on the kangaroo route (SYD-LHR). It is achieveable but will be the long way around.

Perfectly correct. V easy to get AA Platinum this way

if you do an ATW trip starting in Australia and going out via USA , again you can easily complete the challenge before you leave the USA.

Does anyone know how strict QF is with the 4 sector rule. If we fly around the world on various one world airlines and obtain enough SCs to get to QFF Gold but have only done 3 QF sectors in that membership year, will we still go from bronze to gold or will system wait until 4th QF sector? Does the same apply for bronze to silver or gold to platinum?

I have been looking at some flights now.
something like this l think

Sydney, LAX, JFK, LHR, BER, LHR, Singaopre/Bangkok and then Sydney.

Not sure if l can go Berlin, then straight to Singapore/Bankgkok, without going back to Heathrow.

So, if l just quote my AA number and do this Platinum Challenge, then l will be able to access the lounges. It does sound to easy though.

You'd either have to go back via LHR or make your own way to Frankfurt to join the FRA-SIN QF Flt.

Other than needing to fly via somewhere such as London to get to Singapore, what you wish to do is quite possible

One caveat; in order to attain Platinum status , you do need to do SYD-LAX on the AA codeshare and then fly AA LAX-LHR; these 2 flights will get you platinum status and then you will be able to have lounge access on rest of trip

Just sign up for the Platinum Challenge and away you go

l just checked on my status with Qantas.
Need another 500 SC's to get to Gold before Nov 30th 2008. If l write them a letter saying that l will be traveling o/s in the coming weeks, l think that they will show me good faith and extend my membership.
500 is a big ask though.
does anyone know what's the fastest, yet cheapest method of getting those 500 SC's?

Your currently gold or your currently bronze ?
If your currently bronze of course you can forget it, but since you said extend i will assume your gold already and all i can say is Nov 08 is a long time away, you could get some un-expected flights ?

As for the value of 500sc to keep gold, i would think the QP membership is a cheaper option.

Qantas will not extend your membership year.

The best you can expect by writing a letter is to remain QF Silver which means you still need 700 SCs next membership year for QF Gold.

You can get 500 SCs in the USA for ~A$1100 by booking a YUP/QUP/KUP type of airfare on AA. Only problem is you need to get to the USA.

Not feasible to get that many SCs in Australia for <A$3000.

Qantas are strict with the 4 sector rule.
I was stuck on bronze even though I had enough to get Silver. As a result, I jumped straight to Gold, where they didn't even bother sending me out the luggage tags. I was told I missed out on the benefits of Silver because I wasn't official ever at Silver status.
