I'm planning a surprise night in SIN on the way back from a trip to Vietnam for +1's Birthday.

The Conrad is stupidly priced (pretty close to the GP) however the Hilton is reasonable. As a Diamond I figured I'd give it a try.

Any reports on the hotel itself? We land from SGN at 18:30 so all going to plan should make it to the hotel by 19:30. When do the evening drinks wrap up in the lounge. Are they generous with little welcome niceties for Golds/Diamonds? Figured I'd email the manager and see if they can organise something special for the evening if we miss the lounge service. We'll be on the late QF6 home so hopefully a late check out isn't too much to ask!

Last time I stayed (and worked for them), it was rather tired and worn looking. Not sure if they have since renovated - I'm sure others will be able to fill you in on more details.

The Conrad, whilst pricier, was certainly 1000x better when it came to ambience, rooms and the general overall feel - even the cafe for breakfast (lunch & dinner) was roomier and better laid out etc.

That would be my input, not that I have stayed in a long time, I would almost be tempted to say hand the status and look at alternatives.

Can;t help with the HIlton, but I can +1 the Conrad. Very nice rooms and some nice restaurants in the forecourt area. Executive Lounge breakfast was great as well

Give it a go.We stayed last year and felt it quite reasonable.
And for the Birthday surprise book lunch or dinner at Iggy's.It is still in the world top 100 list and we both love it.The guy is great.Told we were repeat customers by the waiter so invited us in to look over the kitchen.turns out he got his start in a fish and chip shop in Logan.

We stayed in April for 8 nights. I can't remember lounge times in the evening; I think food was only available for about 2 hours (6-8??), but you could use the lounge and get some non-alcoholic drinks later than that. We got some welcome choccies and there was always a bowl of fruit in our room, which was refreshed as required. We also received three bottles of water per day, which I did not expect, as there were three of us in the room.
As a Diamond, we were able to check out at 4pm, and then able to wait in the exec lounge until 5 or whatever time we'd decided we would go to the airport.

The front desk manager at Sin Hilton used to be at HOTP. He and Ellen, in my opinion, turned HOTP around. I used to avoid HOTP but now it is my preferred hotel. If he is around he will look after elites.

Well... I ended up booking the Conrad. The all day booze in the lounge was too much of an appeal!

I've emailed the reservations manager and she's already organised an upgrade to the executive floor and said it'll be a suite if there's availability. Fingers crossed!

Good choice. I stayed there a few months back. As Gold I got an upgrade but not to the executive floor. The service was brilliant, room spacious and well appointed and the location is right up there. It costs more, but for a special occasion is worth it (IMHO). Enjoy!
