SIN T3 Ambassador Transit Hotel

I had an overnight layover at SIN for barely 8 hours - 8 unsocial hours at that as I got in at 0100 and had to leave at 0940 in the morning. Thus I thought the transit hotel would be a good idea as I'd simply needed a place to crash for a few hours' shut eye. I'd also considered the new CP but they were asking for SGD350 when I'd looked - uhh next!

I'd booked the hotel via their website. The hotel had confirmed me in a T2 room initially, based on my departing flight from that terminal. However, I'd wanted to visit the T3 SKL F in the morning, and so requested a switch to T3 - which was confirmed in a jiffy.

The hotel is located one floor above the departures' level, opposite the transfer desks. Arrived, had to fill up a form and waited some to get a room - it was pretty busy at that hour with several SQ long haul arrivals. Before too long I'd gotten my room key.

The room was a fair bit nicer than I'd imagined, however it had no windows - behind the curtains was simply a wall - so probably not a good idea if claustrophobic. At the very least the room was clean, beds were adequate, and the ensuite shower was spotless. And a nice, big LCD TV that offered a selection of local Free to Air channels. The free toiletries did not look overly appealing, so I'd used my own bottles of Bliss Lemon&Sage which came in most handy in these sort of contingencies.

Overall, does what it says on the tin - for 'transit' only. If i was in Singapore for a few more hours and at more social hours (or if it'd been a weekend ) I'd deffo have gone downtown. But as it is, the transit hotel provides a perfectly adequate and reasonably priced alternative to the CP.

For some reason I couldn't sleep, even though there was nothing wrong with the bed. I put it down to having that late evening coffee onboard the flight which left me somewhat bright eyed. Which didn't bode well for wanting to make the most out of my SQ regional F experience the following morning.

Looks like a reasonable place to crash waiting for the next flight. It is a shame they are booked out for my transit next month and the Crowne Plaza is well over SG$500/night.

I staid there April 2007, and I'm booked in again for October 2008. Bookings are for six hours, and you can extend in hourly chunks, each hour costing a quarter of a six-hour "block". Bear in mind that if you wanted to spend a day in the hotel, you'd be paying for four six hour blocks and it would be around $300 Singapore dollars.

Booking is via the website, and after a day or so you get a confirmation email giving the details. You quote the arriving and departing flights, and they hold your room for sixty minutes after the flight arrives. You can also ring them if you are delayed further - I had to get tickets reissued on arrival, and there was some waiting, but a quick phone call held my room.

Checkin is quick and easy. You book your wakeup call at the same time, but this can always be changed, and there are alarm clocks in each room.

I got a double room last time, even though I was travelling alone. Room was pretty standard. Basically a bed, an ensuite bathroom, tea/coffee facilities and a TV. No windows, so when you turn off the light it's completely dark, apart from the usual little glowing red and green lights we get nowanights.

Spotlessly clean, but otherwise unremarkable. (Those marks on the carpet are from my freshly-showered feet, and the chap relaxing on the pillow is my travelling companion, Ringbear.) Bed was comfortable and I had no trouble sleeping. Bearing in mind that you are airside, it's just carryon, so a change of underwear and socks, maybe a shirt, is advised, plus your usual shaving gear etc.

The hotel is just a collection of bedrooms. No lobby, no pool, no restaurant. That's OK, because everything you need is just outside the door in an extremely well-equipped terminal. Shops, restaurants, airline lounges, a cinema, gym - lots of stuff. You could fly to Singapore and have a perfectly good holiday without leaving the airport.

My wakeup call came through on time, I packed up and left for the Qantas Club, where I could get some coffee and breakfast and check my emails.

For convenience, I couldn't fault it. Beats going through immigration and back in through security, plus the usual hassle and expense of trolleys and taxis.

Looks v much like Yotel. Except that it doesn't look like it's got ensuite bathrooms?

The hotel is just a collection of bedrooms. No lobby, no pool, no restaurant. That's OK, because everything you need is just outside the door in an extremely well-equipped terminal.

The T1 transit hotel has a pool which is free for guests of the hotel as is the Gym in T1.
