Singapore Airlines' New Redemption Chart

Cliff's Notes:
  • Premium Economy is available for redemption
  • There's no Full Awards any more - just Saver and Standard
  • Europe is now one zone rather than two. The prices will be the higher prices, viz. Y 35k (same) W 62.5k, J 80k, F 107.5k

How will this affect upgrades? Could flexible economy now be upgraded to PE? Probably too late for me as I'm travelling on 27 May and the points I'd need are still in the CC system.

Thanks. I just tried on the SQ website 'how can I use my miles' section and Y to PE was not showing there as an option. Now do I transfer my miles from CC in the hope of using them btw 24 and 27 May? Better check what PE availability is like on my flight first. [SQ site is busy, so to that'll have to wait.]

Yup looks like it, new upgrade chart is here https://www.singaporeair.com/saar5/pdf/ppsclub_krisflyer/charts/SQMI_OneWayUpgradeCharts.pdf seems like 38k to upgrade to PE for AU - Europe vs 75k for Y to J

Most importantly - economy to business class upgrades no longer available as an upgrade if PE is operated on the aircraft :(

From the FAQ:

Q4: Will I still be able to perform a redemption upgrade from Economy to Business Class on a flight offering Premium Economy Class?
A: No. There is a one-cabin class upgrade policy that applies to all redemption upgrades. For a flight that offers Premium Economy Class, only the following redemption upgrades are applicable:

  • Economy to Premium Economy Class; and
  • Premium Economy to Business Class.

For a flight that does not offer Premium Economy Class, an Economy to Business Class redemption upgrade will still apply.

I am so dissapointed by this.. Literally booking flights for our return leg from Europe for next year as soon as they open in a few weeks time. Was buying full flex economy and then going to upgrade to J. Had enough points to do this and go Etihad J on the way over. Meant I would keep my virgin gold as well as I need the status credits. Now we literally miss out by less than 7 days.p from the cutoff. Not happy SQ. :( don't think it's worth wasting points paying for full Flexi to be able to upgrade to PE.

Did I miss an announcement or have they provided only a weeks notice on the changes.

No, I don't think you missed anything. The announcement was made today.

This does seem to be within the KrisFlyer T&Cs, which to be honest I find rather concerning:

1. Singapore Airlines may change the programme rules or programme benefits without prior notice, even though such changes may affect the value of miles, PPS Value or awards already accumulated. Singapore Airlines reserves the right at any time, to initiate changes without limitation to the following:a. KrisFlyer programme partners or participating organisations.
b. The rules for earning or using miles.
c. The award structure and availability of awards.
d. The rules for use of awards and the cities served.
e. The features of special offers and promotions. Awards from programme partners are dependent on the partner's continued participation in the KrisFlyer programme.

Well, that throws a spanner in the plans :(
Too early to redeem the flights we want for next year... but then again, we still have the points at Amex, so our plans can change... just see who offers the best deal.

I got the email redeem your KrisFlyer miles for premium economy class and clicked on the link to the award chart. Business class is 55,000 KrisFlyer miles one way to SE Asia and premium economy is 45,000 KrisFlyer miles one way.

Enough said.

P.S. It would appear that economy is now only 25,000 KrisFlyer miles one way? If I am not mistaken it was 27,500 KrisFlyer miles previously?

Quite some time ago it was 27,500 IIRC, but for several years now it has been 21,250 miles online or 25,000 miles offline.

It seems overall the Y+ award miles are designed to discourage people from redeeming on Y+, unless they are desparate.

Transferring Citi reward points to SQ may not have been best option after all.

I have searched a couple of dates and routes for PE availability using my iPad but nothing showing up either in the drop down menu or chosen route. I read that if there was no availability in the PE cabin then the option would not be there but with 4 flights ex SYD, two of which operate with a PE cabin, surely there would be some availability for 2017. Anyone else experiencing same?

As John K pointed out the 10k diff between PE and J really makes it a no brainer

Try again when the new chart takes effect on 24 May...
