Any word on when velocity status points will be available for SQ bookings? I need to go to Singo in December and it seems currently the only way there on velocity is flying MH via KL. V just doesn't currently have enough flights.

ACCC just approved the draft proposal, it has not being officially rubber stamped. They said they were hoping to announce something in December, so hopefully it is that we can earn SC and points on SQ flights.

LOL yes i hear ya.

Where are you flying from? Melb/Syd/Bris? Because you can catch a flight to Brisbane, and then fly Etihad Airways to Singapore, its an 8-hour flight on their A330-200 and its about $900 bucks.... i think.

Say if you're from Melbourne, that should score you 90 SC on a return discount economy ticket on Virgin/Etihad, whereas Malaysia Airlines you will earn 80 SC - 10 SC makes a difference :P lol

And in terms of Mileage points its more favourable for you to be a Etihad ticketed flight (just make sure it is an Etihad EY flight number not VA) because you earn 1 velocity point regardless of what economy ticket you purchased (Y, B, H, K, M, Q, L, V, U, E, T). And if your Gold FF well you get the extra %%% ++

Whereas the point earn rate on Malaysia Airlines is woeful if you are on a discount economy ticket, check it out.
Discounted Economy (O, L) 0.3 Velocity Points
Discounted Economy (S, V) 0.5 Velocity Points
Discounted Economy (M, Q, H) 0.7 Velocity Points
Discounted Economy (K, B) 1 Velocity Point
Economy (Y, W, U) 1.25 Velocity Points

So you can potentially earn around 4700 velocity points on Etihad ticket + your status bonus
or 1410 velocity points on Malaysia Airlines + your status bonus

Agreed - if buying a discount economy airfare, the points are better if flighting on an EY code. Flexible economy and most premium cabin fares will be better for your points balance if flighting on a VA code.

And ohh depending on the load, you can query about cash upgrades for the 8 hour flight, I believe it is around $400-500 one way, if Etihad wanted to earn some extra revenue.

All the sudden you go from earning 30 SC for that flight to 120 SC.

And it never hurts to ask, because I paid for a cash upgraded on my 7 hour 50 minute flight from LHR to JFK for $270 - to Premium Economy and went from earning 30 SC to 90 SC as well as earn 1.25 velocity point per mile as opposed to 0.25 Velocity point per mile, for that one flight.

Thanks to all for your responses.

I'm departing Sydney and need to leave on a Sunday for latest monday morning arrival and then leave COB on Friday.

I did look into the Etihad out of BNE option and that is too limited. Fly only Saturday, Monday and Wednesday which sucks.

So I'm back to my only option of MH via KL.... that is unless the Singapore/Virgin alliance pulls its collective finger out in the next couple of weeks!
