Chinese tourists coming to Singapore are looking for experiences rather than goods, says Christine Li, director of research at Cushman & Wakefield in Singapore. “In today’s globalized world, where one can almost find the same brand everywhere, differentiation becomes the key ingredient for a successful retail scene, but regrettably, it is lacking in Singapore.”
 
Is this something new? Singapore has been sterilised to the point of blandness for a long while.

+1 - Singapore had charm? Cleanliness - yes, good food - yes, but charm, nah it's too young/sterile/overplanned
 
I like Singapore. I feel it has enough charm to be a good holiday destination. I find it friendlier than say the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong.

Now if there was a way to visit and avoid some of the tourists that would be even better.
 
Bit of an odd article really. Applies to most countries - not just Singapore. Retail shopping has dropped due to the Internet and shopping centres need to adapt.
