I just made a reservation for Chile with Sixt (never used them before). Seems to have gone through OK, I can see it in the app with a reservation number.

But along the way, it didn't ask for any CC details, DL number, address etc. When I go into the reservation in the app, it says "Can't edit because booking is on request".

It sounds like the overseas location has to somehow approve the reservation - is that others' experience? I'll be able to enter them once 'approved'?

I called the number provided in the app (Australian, but an o/s call centre) but they said 'sorry, we can only access Australian bookings' and offered to give me a phone number in Chile. Ah ... no thanks.

I can't say I've ever seen that happen before - although I've only rented with Sixt in the UK, Germany, Iceland and Ireland.

When I rented a car in Birmingham UK last year I used Sixt. They had me by the short and curlies because I had forgotten my passport and only had International DL.

They refused to accept my insurance as excess and told me I had to insure the whole car which was an extra 60 UK pounds for 3 days. I'm not sure if I had my passport whether they would have pushed me. I didn't really want to find out

I mentioned this on here before, in Croatia they wouldn’t accept my separate policy, nor cc. I had to buy their extra cover. I wanted to go into non Euro places, and that cost extra, but she did a deal and reduced that fee. When I got the keys the guy said that with the full insurance, anything done to car was covered and not too stress about anything.
Sixt is a franchise there, I believe.
The only other time I have been forced to take full insurance was a few years ago in Germany when Buchbinder the Thrifty agent also said they didn’t care what other cover I had, theirs was mandatory.
After the experience last week when I got some gutter rash, I’m thinking that I’ll just pay the extra and not worry about things like that.

I've not had any issues using my Amex Plat provided car insurance for any of my pickups outside the UK (3 countries as noted above). Interesting.
