I'm travelling on QF21 on the 22nd of July and after doing my background research on previous threads here have deduced that our 744 has a row 4 <shock horror>.

My question is, does anyone on here actually prefer MK1? Is there a HUGE difference? I explained this to my travel partner who simply said - it's not economy, isn't that enough?

I'm now having MK2 envy.

I wouldnt be anxious about SK1 - apart from IFE but I supply my own anyway. It isn't as good as the SK2 but both are a very long way from whY...

I think your anxiety is well founded (MK1 is undoubtedly inferior to MK2), but in the grand scheme of things, and given there's nothing to be done, just go with the flow.

What is inferior RooFlyer in particular?

It is sloped compared to the fully flat mk 2. You can search on here as there are many tips as to how to overcome this, but essentially you are a million times more likely to get sleep in a mk 1 compared to an economy seat!

a 'million times' ... gotta luv some AFFers perspectives/exaggerations/expectations on here .... i LOL when i read many posts/threads on AFF ... over time i've concluded that AFF brings me roughly 90% cough info...and about 10% useful info .... thankyou AFFers for providing me with a good belly laugh

Of course if a sloping seat is of concern, you can always go to Y.

Seriously though, it's not that bad. Mk II is much better, but Mk I is nothing to be sniffed at!

I cannot sleep in any economy seat (I can't sleep sitting up) so a million times works for me.

If you don't find the information relevant, you're free to disregard it of course:)

As mannej said - its the angle or repose, compared to horizontal for MKII.

If you are a sound sleeper / can sleep through a train crash type of person it probably won't make much difference. A light sleeper, tending to toss & turn, I can't get very comfortable sliding down the bed so that either my feet are pressing against the footrest base, or my ankles are over-hanging the end.

But of course, better than Y or the old recliner J seats :)

I cannot sleep on MKI angle at all and I toss and turn a lot. I found that adjusting the seat slightly so that it wasn't completely flat, actually worked a bit better. Someone on AFF suggested propping feet up with a pillow to stop yourself from sliding down. At the end of the day, "83% of flyers are happy with MKI seats"

Mk II are very much better than Mk I but as some of the others have said MkI is far superior to anything Y or Y+ I came back from MNL a couple if months ago and slept like a baby for 5-6 hours in MkI and I am 6'5" (might have had something to do with the wine consumption prior though!)

Dumb question - how do u identify if they are to be mk1or2? I'm flying on qf1or2 on 28th august for sydney to london.

It is not economy. That should be enough....

If 747 and business, no row 4 indicates mk2.

(of course, if no 1B, then rows 1-4 have the old lay flat first seats.)

I don't mean to be disparaging here (actually yes I do), but seriously, anxiety over what is ultimately a very comfortable seat, and not a bad bed?

You are flying international business class, something that the majority of people can only ever dream of what it is like. In fact your flying full stop, something that again a large proportion of people in this world can only dream of. I don't like to use the expression of First World Problems, but seriously...

Enjoy your trip...

Are you implying that it is not the end of the world if you can't secure a MKII bed in row 11-13 of the A380?!? Heresy!
