Been reading through old posts trying to figure out which of Qantas' A330s have Skybeds in J and AVOD. I've come up with the following:

- All A330-300s (333) have Skybeds in J and AVOD.
- International config A330-200s (332) have Skybeds in J and AVOD
- Domestic config 332s don't have Skybeds in J, and the newer ones have AVOD whereas the old ones don't.

- Distinguishing between the different 332 configs involves looking at rows 23 and 24 - international config are missing the middle four seats in row 23 only, whereas the domestic config 332s will either be missing the middle four seats in both rows 23 and 24 (newer - with AVOD) or will not be missing any seats in rows 23 and 24 (older - no AVOD).

As it seems the status of Skybeds / AVOD on A330s has changed quite a lot of over the past few years (and some of the threads I was reading were quite old), could someone please confirm that the above is still correct?

Thanks.

All Qantas A330 aircraft now have AVOD - the last non-AVOD aircraft has been sent to Jetstar.

The International A332's seem to have no row 23 DEFG, and have two 3 row sections of the J Cabin.

The domestic A332's have two different set ups, but essentially all the rows of J are in one section.

EBG, H, I , L have sky beds, whilst EBM, N, O and P do not.

The Qantas Website has the seat maps for all 3 versions of the A332 (Onboard Seat Maps for the Airbus 330-200 ).

I would not book an A332 service hoping for skybeds, you have a bit of a chance between PER-SYD and vv (QF566/577). but they seem to be scattered more then it being the norm

Can I ask, are these the same Skybeds as the A380?

I'm trying to decide whether to fly MEL-SIN or MEL-HKG in J on route to Vietnam and wonder if the A380 product is worth experiencing over the A330-300 product?

I've never been in an A380 and want to try it in J class :D

I'm far from an expert on this topic, but I believe:
- the A330 has the Skybed Mark 1, whereas the A380 has the Skybed Mark 2
- the key difference between them is that the Mark 2 is "fully flat" (flat bed which is exactly horizontal to the ground when in bed mode) whereas the Mark 1 is "lie-flat" (flat bed which is still on a 10-15 degree angle to the ground when in bed mode)

I suspect the answer from most will be that the A380 is a much-superior J product (seats, cabin, plane, etc), and you should go A380 unless it's significantly more expensive / inconvenient.
