SkyBus gone up again [Up to $23.90 one way]

Train & bus. Other melbourne folks here know about it.
Yes, use it regularly.

What irks me is the government sponsorship of Skybus where it's the only service indicated on transport maps and is the default on the ptv app. There are other companies that offer bus services and they don't get the same privileges. Money talks, I guess.

The other issue with non-Skybus services is the relegation to the far end of the airport where it is a very long walk to the terminals. The actual bus bays allocated to these services are at the far end of the terminal.

There is a clear case for these bus services to be allowed to recommence using the regular bus stops in front of the terminals but I reckon Skybus doesn't want the competition.

They can move it even further to the end of the busport if they want, won't stop me using it when it works for me. Used it probably a dozen times over the last year, I calculate I've saved well north of $200 on Skybus fares.

On arrival at the airport often find there's a nearby trolley been left around and that helps me with my luggage. Not as easy to find when flying in though.

Why the public bus at MEL can't drive by the terminals to dropoff and pick up is beyond me. Perhaps the new transport body in Victoria can make the change but I'm not holding my breath.

I can understand because they have now a purpose built bus terminal. There are quite a few buses that go to MEL and it would cause even more congestion if they were all to go to the terminals.

For me, the point is why can Skybus go to the terminals? They should go to the bus terminal like all the other buses and that would reduce congestion even more.

Same reason that ACTION couldn't service the CBR terminal while the Queanbeyan bus company had the contract, but could still go past the terminal to service the other locations on airport land (Brindabella Business Park and Majura Park). Which lead to people without much luggage getting the bus to Brindabella Business Park and walking to the terminal.

They used to but were stopped by either Skybus or the airport.

Public Transport probably didn't want to pay for a closer stop. Skybus pay Melbourne Airport something of the order of $1.50 per passenger to have the spot in front of the terminal.

On top of what they pay the government.

Doesn't really matter, it's not going to change anyway

Thanks for this! Off topic but interesting that only the Skybus offer appeared but not Midas when I logged in (I had already earned bonus points with Midas as part of the Christmas bonus promotion)...

Double Skybus points finally posted for a purchase made on 4 April...

Same here. Annoying they attach bonus points at original date of purchase instead of the the actual posting day, makes it harder to follow up.

Unless you're like me where I haven't had any Velocity activities at all since, so the bonus points still appeared straight after the original purchase...
