SkyBus gone up again [Up to $23.90 one way]

Skybus tickets can be bought for $33.80 return or $20.20 for a one-way via Agoda under the category of, activities (cheaper than booking direct with Skybus and it works well from my experience).

I've used this when travelling solo, but when travelling with others, Didi is a great option via T1 rideshare pickup point and may be cheaper (along with collecting some Velocity points, if linked).
As Matt Graham pointed out, watch out for unlicensed taxi drivers, who can be very pushy.
They may jump out of their cars at the T1 rideshare pickup point and attempt to convince you to quit your Uber/Didi app booking and jump in a car with them. It's quite bizarre that this still happens (I've experienced this twice in the last month alone).
Does this method just give you a QR code can use on your phone to get on the bus? Assume the returns are open ended. I.e. direction doesn't matter? Could use a return ticket for 2 x separate MEL-City trips?

Effectively a return is a "2 trip" ticket valid for the one person.

I have not come across anyone, say a couple, successfully using both trips in the one direction at the same time.

Currently showing 1 way in Agoda at $18.48 or a return for $30.93.
Not sure why you'd bother if it's 2 travelling together, similar cost to get a Didi to CBD and direct to door.

Does this method purchasing on Agoda give you a QR code can use on your phone to get on the bus? Don't have to print off hopefully?

Currently Agoda has 10% cashabck on cashrewards,,,,I wonder if buying Skybus tickets via cashrewards triggers the 10% cashback ? :)

I purchased a return Skybus ticket in September but the app still shows 2 tickets, does the app just not update when 1 or both used

Are you referring to 2 tickets ("return") in the Agoda app, or the Skybus app?

If in the Agoda app, the QR code remains as it is, but the same QR code allows for a second scan. Forget if it says 2 tickets, it will only have 1 scan left if you've used one of the 2
I am not sure about the Skybus app, but from memory that one is live, as in, the app updates how many tickets are left.
