Skytrans Dash 8 runway incursion TWB

The ATSB has commenced an investigation into a runway incursion involving a Cessna 172 and a De Havilland DHC-8, at Toowoomba Airport, Queensland, on 28 March 2014.
When on short final for runway 29, the pilot of the Cessna 172 sighted the De Havilland DHC-8 entering the runway. The pilot landed and stopped short of the taxying DHC-8. The crew of both aircraft reported not hearing radio broadcasts from the other aircraft.
As part of the investigation, the ATSB will interview the flight crew and gather additional information.
A report will be released within several months.

I would have (note: not "would of" ;)) thought a go-around would have been a more appropriate response. But I'm not a pilot so what would I know?

indeed, I wonder how 'short' this final was when the C172 pilot saw the Dash 8

Also not a pilot, but I've got a few hours in a C172 and I would have to completely agree. Even though you can pretty much land one of those on a dime and stop pretty quickly.
 
It all depends how close he was, they are not stellar climb machines and its possible the height of the Dash 8 could be an obstacle in the go round.
 
I have more than 100 hours on the c172 and it just doesn't add up to me. They are not stellar climb performers no, but a Dash 8 is not that high and it must have been at the point of flaring or close to it for the pilot to have chosen to continue. All will be revealed in the report I guess
 
Hmm yes I'd be a bit worried if a 172 can't climb above the 24.7 foot tail of a Dash8. Especially given they had time to pull up on the runway, can't have been all that close.

Toowoomba can be a bit painful sometimes (been a while since I've been there). From memory, the hump in the runway does obscure vision quite a bit.

Not sure why the hump would be a factor with an aircraft on final and a Dash 8 back tracking. Its one of the Aero Club aircraft so it could well have been a student.
 
My thought would only be that they were significantly selected with one on either side of the hump and the guy in the 172 only caught sight of them at the last minute.

Can't imagine why anyone would land in close proximity to an aircraft if they had it in full view.

Should be interesting to read more details, however the Dash 8 should not have been there.
 
Ahh QQD. I'm getting all misty eyed. A ground handler was only saying the other day that planes with the letter D the rego often have 'issues' eg QQD Dash-8, NXD 717, FKD F100 & OQD 388.
