Thanks to the links in this thread I enjoyed a Platinum experience at this wonderful property. Situated well out of town but great for F1 racing fans upon arrival I was immediately identified as a Platinum and escorted to the 6th floor lounge to check in. Check-in went well and I was upgraded to Exec level, although the room was on level 5.

The following lovelies were waiting for me in the room.

Flowers, a large box of dried fruits and middle-east delicacies, large bowl of fruits, complimentary 30 minute swedish massage and of course some bedside Voss water to get me off to sleep.

Life was pretty good in the Gulf.

Wow, nice

Looks like the Gulf Sofitel's treat Plats well. Will have to keep this in mind for December!

Possibly the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Only draw back would be the BD14 taxi fare from Manama if you had business in the city. If you can just chill at the hotel, it is a great place.

I've got two stretches of 4 nights, in and out of AUH in December. I think I will spend 4 nights in either Abu Dhabi or Dubai, but for the second lot, I'm still not sure where to go. I am thinking a nice resort somewhere on the coast, although it might not be so much fun by myself...I'll have to find a busy one! I have tinkered with the idea of going to Oman or Bahrain, but I think I will stay in the UAE.

To be honest, I found Bahrain a little boring by myself when staying in the city. It was great when colleagues and friends were around. I would definitely stay at a resort style accom if i was there again.

Thanks for the advice :)

I think I shall stay in the UAE and hit up one of the resorts, as long as they are priced ok for my (admittedly low) budget.
