Some EY (Etihad) connecting flights aren't bookable?

I'm looking at JFK-AUH-ICN or JFK-AUH-NRT/KIX and VA doesn't even let you search those routes, even though individual legs are available. I called up with flight numbers that and they could only offer multi-city bookings which don't cap the points out.

Anyone experienced this and or had a call centre operator actually be able to book it? Or know what the "rules" are in terms of what connecting flights are bookable and which aren't?

I don’t believe you have ever been able to book those type of trips via the Virgin website?
