Bit of an interesting one - a few hours before we dropped the car back in Zurich we saw a flash as we went whizzing past. We were befuddled, as we checked the speed signs around us and we checked the GPS indicator (both matched) and we were doing about 15km/h under the speed limit as we were approaching our turn off.

We wondered if anything would come of it. Well, today my mate received an e-mail from Alamo saying there was a speeding fine and he'll have to pay up 50 CHF for their "hard work" on it and then whatever the fine is. Has anyone ever successfully pushed back on these? There was no roadwork going on and we are pretty darn sure we were nowhere even close to the speed limit.

Can you be very specific about the road? Like exact exit? -- maybe it might be able to find the speed limit on google maps street view. Many roads across Switzerland have variable speed limits so whilst the GPS might have said the speed limit is 100.... it might have in fact been 80 (or even less).

How much is the actual fine and does it state how far over the speed you were booked? Swiss speeding fines depend on the posted speed limit and how far over you were going. So if you're going 6-10km/h over in a 30 zone then it's 120CHF compared to 60CHF if only 6-10 over on the freeway.

As for the rental company fee... standard practice is to charge the same as the fine for the admin fee.

We're waiting on those details to be sent through, all that Alamo sent was a notification. Will update once they provide more information......
