Despite being a member of this forum, I'm not what you would call a frequent flyer (I'm imagining most of you are people who fly for work a lot, internationally a few times a year or at least monthly domestically - and a fair amount of that in business class).
On the other hand, most of my travel is personal domestic travel, a couple of HBA-MEL work trips, with a couple of outlying exceptions (to JFK last year and HKG this year) - all in economy.
So imagine my surprise when I qualified for silver on 7 April this year, and then qualified for gold on 22 April! I put it down to a few things - family pooling; the fact that in HBA a lot of our travel is over two legs; and just luck that this month we happened to have three separate trips (4 people to PER, 1 person to MEL, and 2 people to SYD) between us all. The Perth trip alone earned 240 SCs! I was just short of qualifying for silver before the first trip, and just squeezed in to gold at the end of the last.
Amusingly, my silver card and baggage tag arrived the day I got home from the flight where I reached gold!
I'm sure some of the more frequent flyers than myself have done it faster?
