Website: Sports Car Rentals Australia - sports car hire, rent a car, vehicle rentals, car rental, leasing melbourne

Based in Richmond, Melbourne. I've googled them and I can't seem to find any reviews on them.

Has anyone rented from them? Or does anyone know anything about them?

Background

I purchased a voucher from Spreets about 11 months ago, for a day's hire (9am - 5pm) of a Porsche 911 for $179 (usually $600-$700 for 24 hours).

Voucher terms state:

A $4000 security condition guarantee will be held as an imprint on your credit card, for the duration of your hire

To me, this implies that they will not actually debit my card (Underline of the word imprint is mine). However, when I booked it, I was advised that they would debit my credit card $4,000! Not only that, they will do it 7-10 days before the rental date (Saturday week) and it won't be returned until 7-10 days after the rental! This was not disclosed on either the voucher or their website. Not happy!

I expressed my displeasure at the misleading terms and they blamed Spreets! They mentioned that Spreets contacted purchasers about changes about 2 weeks later (I was not contacted) and offered a refund if purchasers were not happy (Spreets website says they have a 10 day refund period). I suspect that at this late stage (I wanted to rent the car in summer), I will not be offered a refund. They then advised they do not accept Amex (again, not disclosed on their website or the voucher) and when I mentioned this, the person I spoke to got quite narky and said I had their number and could call them back if I wanted to proceed!

I am going to call Spreets today, but thought I would see if anyone knows anything.

I really want to drive the Porsche, but not at a cost of $4,179!

I should note that I have purchased and redeemed another voucher from Spreets for two nights accommodation without any issues.
