Spurious check in notification

Has anyone ever received a spurious check in notice? Got a message from Virgin today, inviting me to check in for my flight to Melbourne. Only problem is that I'm not flying anywhere any time soon.

Same flight, same day, same notification - alas was not flying on it!

The check in reminders I get from Virgin usually include a link.
