SQ as VA Gold

Hi all,

Will be going Tokyo (MEL-HND) in December and looking at options.

Would really like to go J, so I assume I'm looking at about $5.5k – do you think I could find any better? I can't redeem VA points can I?

My second question is about lounge access – I notice SQ lists ANA lounges as an option for Krisflyer Golds at both HND and NRT. Do you think I'd have any luck getting in with VA Gold card?

Japan is a massive black hole for VA. Really leaves me with limited options, especially getting around domestically.

Any tips would be appreciated.

VA status only give you access to SQ operated lounges. You can redeem points for SQ J but it's very expensive, it would come in as:
MEL - SIN = 120,000
SIN - HND = 90,000

Travelling in business class you will get access to the ANA business lounges regardless of status

That sure is expensive. With my current points that would get me from SIN to HND. Is there a Points + Pay option?

I hate how VA doesn't go direct Australia - Japan or codeshares with someone who does.

If this hasn't changed by the next time I go to/from Japan, I'll have to go via SIN again but this time I won't leave the airport & get some zzzz in the transit hotel there.
