Why would you have 5 different plane types on the one route?! Product consistency into australia is where CX smashes SQ.

Maybe because most people don't care about product consistency because they are all in whY (which are pretty much all the same)?

I am surprised by the addition especially with all the competitions from LCCs (Scoot, Jet*, AirAsia) and ME3s. SQ must be doing something right.

A few comments...

1. 5x daily - wow. QF's twice daily flights pale in comparison.
2. 5 different aircraft types - really?!
3. Interesting to see that a 773 will be overnighting in SYD instead of operating an overnight SYD-SIN return flight.
4. Bring on the extra award availability.

They certainly are kam - I see everything SQ do right every time I climb into a F or J cabin - my limited experience in CX J cabin indicates to me their right is a fair degree to the left of SQ right - want to start with the quality of Champs on offer to pax in the relevant J cabins? Nah that would be childish - but as always others will hold a differing view.

Combined with BA daily, LCC frequency, and EK - you'd have to think yield on SYD-SIN must struggle!

Y is more or less the same across the board. Although the A330's are 2-4-2 which makes window seats only slightly more attractive... if you can say that.

It does make me wonder – do you think the average non-AFFer/airline nerd notices the J product they are booking? I do think it's a pretty remarkable difference between SQ's two J hard products.

I think there is a remarkable difference between the 2 J seats for sleeping - the big wide Diamond seats that fold flat provide an excellent bed - the smaller regional Weber seats that recline down to angled bed are just not up to standard for o/n flts SIN to Oz ports - but TBH I think they are more comfortable to sit on daytime flts.

But back to the point of the regional Weber seats on o/n flts ex SIN - I have sent numerous feedback emails to SAA feedback advising my thoughts that this product is unacceptable on o/n flts ~7hrs - how many others here have done the same? If SAA got enough negative feedback in writing about their hard product they may act on it - but they won't if they don't get the feedback - so again I ask how many of you guys have actually taken the time and effort to put your thoughts in writing?

You're absolutely right. Totally unacceptable for red-eyes.

I have actually sent feedback about the Weber seat before (among other things). Although the response was generic and fairly unsatisfying, I do hope that it helps to inform future decision making about products.

If flying business class I either pick the flight that has the flat bed, or fly non-stop on a competitor offering full flats. I don't write in... the product is explained on the website, the configuration is easy enough to find out (either on line at time of booking, or by calling).

It's perhaps an issue if seats are limited by award space, but for revenue fares it's not a problem. It's the same when choosing First or premium economy class - not all flights have it, you amend your schedule accordingly, or take another airline.

As a regular Y traveler on SQ, the A330s are my preference, especially if travelling with the better half. I'm a big window fan so having two seats to ourselves is quite good for Y. I was also quite impressed with the new 777s when I flew them in August.

I try to avoid the 772s if possible however. An old plane that is really showing its age, especially its IFE. Actually reckon that it significantly detracts from SQ's image as a premium airline. Should be scrapped/sold off to TZ ASAP.

On this basis, there is only one flight to avoid - SQ 251 overnight operated by A333. The other two overnighters are on 77W and A380, whilst the rest of the flights are daytimers. Also note the 772's SQ use on the route are refitted with the diamond seats, they are not the Weber seats.

The 772s in use on the SYD route (and MEL route currently) are the 777-200ER's with refitted business class seats, and IIRC they also have upgraded IFE. There are some older ones still in the fleet (with looped IFE) that should be scrapped ASAP, but it unusual that they make an appearance on SYD or MEL (probably do on PER though).

5x daily - wow. QF's twice daily flights pale in comparison.

SQ service is not just serving SYD-SIN though, QF's more or less is with some JQ connections. Sometimes waiting at the carousel after a SQ flight originating in Australia, there are only 40-50 people waiting for luggage (and a handful that seem to have escaped sans hand luggage), which suggests most SQ passengers are indeed connecting, as you would expect.

I'm hoping for a 5th daily MEL flight, scheduled as SQ 247 SIN-MEL 15:15/00:40 SQ 248 MEL-SIN 06:30/12:20 !!
