G'day AFFers!!

Lady Lenny and I are looking at a potential unexpected trip to London in June/July this year. It's a long story but essentially Lady Lenny has the opportunity to complete a 10 week internship at Christie's auction house in London sometime from May-Jun/Jul and (assuming she is successful) I will fly over to pick her up and have a quick week or so to do London-Paris-Bruges(maybe)-Amsterdam by train before coming home.

Our return flights AMS-SYD will be paid, and so will her initial SYD-LHR.

I would like to take advantage of the points transfer from Velocity to Krisflyer to try and award book an Premium Economy of Business single SYD-LHR for myself. Obviously if I go in J lounge access isn't a problem but if all I can get is Premium Economy obviously I don't get access.

Does anyone have any experience or forsee any difficulties booking the award, but still having my VA Platinum status recognised??

Thanks!!

VA status counts for nought on SQ, *A status is required for perks or privileges.

Except where they have the reciprocal benefits for VA Gold and Platinum to land you priority check-in/boarding & lounge access. We did SYD-LHR in July 2016 and my Gold status was recognised without any issues. For a ticket booked and bought through the SQ website.

I guess my question could be a little better summed up along the lines of: does anyone have experience of booking an SQ award with a Krisflyer account, and then having their VA Partner status recognised or attached to the booking .

For interest, what does a *A gold get on SQ that a VA WP does not?

The only thing I can think of is possibly a better seat selection and lounge access where SQ use a partner lounge and you are in Y.

Missus & I have received op-up to J flying SQ as VA WP. The main status and perk I miss travelling with SQ as a WP is the lack of lounge access in places like PVG that have no SQ lounge (as Pleb Status notes).

I was able to add my VA frequent flyer number to my SQ award booking at online check-in. My VA status was reflected/printed on my boarding pass ("PTNR PARTNER PRIORITY").

I had tried to add it previously via the manage booking option on the website, but it didn't save. Online check-in did.

You should have no issue using the normal *A Gold Singapore Lounge where it is available with your WP status. Award travel doesn't matter. You won't have access to some (all?) partner lounges.

FWIW the SQ lounge staff don't seem to care if your status is on the BP as long as you have your card. I entered many SQ lounges while VA Red using my *A Gold card, but crediting to VA. So bring your card. (OT but I still have *A Gold status and use it to access partner lounges but still redeeming to Velocity).

I'm not sure why you +1 the post you quoted, when it said you should receive nothing with VA WP status.

Ah yes. The grammar naz_ in me shuddered at "me and the +1", but on review that doesn't read well! I'll edit...

Have flown SQ many times as both VA Gold and Platinum level. In many parts of the world there is access to SQ business class lounges, except in Changi where you get the rather coughpy Gold lounge. This applies to guests x 1 for Gold and upto 3 for Platinum. There is priority checkin through business class lines, priority baggage, priority boarding. So other than bad lounge in Changi, where I use any of the PriorityPass lounges am fairly happy with perks on SQ.

Thanks all, if the consensus is it should be fine to do at check-in then that's enough for me.

Now we just wait for Lady Lenny to hear back about the internship and then we'll go from there.

I'm also quite happy with the perks VA SG & WP get from them, apart from the damn Krisflyer Gold lounge, but then again if we transit through Changi for any more than about 2-3hrs then we generally book a transit hotel. That said Krisflyer Gold is ok to hang for an hour or so once you've done a walk to see the Koi pond and stretch your legs.

Edit: Turns out she was not successful =( thanks for the advice anyway everyone. I was looking forward to some non Y travel on SQ, instead we will have to console ourselves with a trip to NZ in July instead!!
