Just wondering what the opinion on AFF is for flying to SIN in either SQ Y vs ScootPlus assuming similar timing and price.

If you want IFE, cabin crew service and alcoholic beverages and a slightly better meal- SQ economy.

For a better seat (think domestic business class) - ScootPlus,

On balance, I'd probably the seat makes up for the rest. Especially if you can load up a device with your own IFE or have other things to pass the time, and don't care so much for or don't mind paying for beverages. Although and SQ exit row could be a reasonable compromise.

As someone who has done both from Perth - albeit not on SQ since around 2018 - there are a number of things to consider. Our main reason for choosing ScootPlus was the leg and shoulder room. I am 6'3" in the old money, and definitely not slim, and my wife is 5'8". The problem we are trying to avoid is seat recline into our legs and not being able to see the IFE screen. Plus no shoulder squashing. In ScootPlus even if the person in front reclines fully your knees are still free to move. The Scoot seats have a pitch of 38" and a width of 18.5" -19.5". The SQ B787 seats are 32" by 17'3". It is noticeably roomier on Scoot. The insides of some of the planes is getting a bit worn and a refurbishment is probably needed.

This is a photo my wife took a couple of months ago in ScootPlus after the person in front had fully reclined. As you can see she still has plenty of room. Below it is a photo of my legroom.

The food on board has been edible - basically a $5 hawker meal. You get one can of drink and a cake or similar. Plus a small water. Everything else needs to be purchased. A photo of what I got on our last trip is below. The spicy chicken was definitely spicy. Anything else needs to be purchased. This was fine for a 5 hour flight from Perth. The tray table is in the armrest which is nice and wide.

Service is minimal but pleasant enough. As soon as possible after take off the meals are delivered and then the FA's are rarely seen again. They do seem to respond quickly enough to the call button. There is no IFE but you get a free 30Mb allowance on the WiFi, which is basically useless, or you could pay for WiFi. There is a hotspot you can connect to and play a few games or read their very small magazine. More usefully you can look at the moving flight map - not a great version but ok.

As per dajop we always take our own entertainment. On my last trip it was a little mp3 player with music and books on my phone. I have looked at movies on my PC previously and there is free in-seat power in ScootPlus.

But I would not recommend them for a tight connection. We always allow a nights gap in Singapore. Our last two flights were 3 hours and 2 hours delayed but at least in Perth they gave us a $30 card to spend at the airport. In Singapore they gave everyone a little goody bag of snacks.

Nice thread and thanks to the repliers for the info. After a SQ J redemption SIN-SYD/MEL, but failing that, am considering ScootPlus. Sounds very do-able.

I've done Scoot Plus NRT-SIN, it was a seven hour day flight and I found it quite okay.
Certainly better than any Y imho.
Note: there's also priority check in and boarding.

TR here:

Agree Scoot Plus for sure over SQ Y. I don't think SQ food is particularly nice in economy so Scoot wins there. The wifi is a good option in lieu of IFE too. An ex client used to book me upfront on Scoot quite often and I came to enjoy it, on day flights at least.
