Hi,

We have a booking this sat 17/12/11 SYD-SIN-HKG 4 seats in Y.

This saver Y booking was made some time ago and I was able to use the Westpac voucher which discounted our total miles require by 38000 Kris flyer miles. Total miles used for 4 x Y savers was 55000. Not a bad deal I must admit.

Here is where it gets tricky. I had also made a redemption booking for 4 J savers for the same route which were all waitlisted. Amazingly just got an email confirmation today stating all 4 J saver are available.

Do any experienced travellers know what would be the best options?

-can I amend the current ticketed Y booking for all 4 pax and transfer the voucher over to J booking? Or would I need to cancel the Y booking pay fees, lose the voucher and then confirm the J flights?
- should i ignore the J saver booking fly the Y to maximise and save the KRIS flyer miles approx 38000 miles saving with this one time Westpac coupon which is no longer offered?

Thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

Ted

1/ If you are talking about the Westpac Krisflyer Voucher when I was issued mine it was only applicable for Y and not J&F redemptions.

2/ Each redemption is separate. You cannot transfer from one to another. You can transfer bookings by date...but cannot "merge" two different bookings.

Well done on the waitlist coming through. I can't help you with your answers, but are those J awards on the 380 by any chance?

SQ must be doing a waitlist batch approval, as my IST-SIN-SGN J x 2 waitlist came throught his morning, after a small 36 hour waitlist :) 76,500 points for two is a bargain :) [I'd have a guess that Qantas would charge me around 80,000 per person if those routes were available].

What is best will be what works best for you. We all have different value systems and prioirties.

no you cannot.

yes

Only you can make the judgement call.

Do you really want to fly J? The flights are not overly long...but J is J.

Or do you really want to expend minimal points? If the latter then fly in your voucher discounted Y seats.

Cheers to all who have replied. Never been on J with SQ. Also, have another j x 4 tix booked next year return from Europe. Trying to decide what option to take for next Saturday. Expanding minimal points through Y sounds good for a young family. Will give it some thought. Out of interest, which Lounge in SIN is better if we decide to fly J. Forgot to mention my family consist of 2 adults +2 children aged 8 &5. Would there be any issues lounging with the little ones?

SilverKris lounge in T3 would be my preference. It is more than big enough for young ones.

Thanks for the update regarding the Waitlists. I am holding out on purchasing a fare for a flight in early Jan. There is hope for me yet.

SQ is quite helpful in extending TTL, even upto few days prior to start of journey. I've already been ticketed on TG next week but if the SQ seats are secured, I'll change for convenience and also for saving on KF miles and taxes.

Thank you for the reply albatross710. Silverkris in T3 do they have any dress code? I tried to search via SIA website however I could not locate. Also, J class flight would there be a dress code as such? I did search the forum and did find bits and pieces. The general responce is to wear what is most comfortable. Happy to hear your thoughts?

Good luck with the waitlist in January.

Just fyi i thought no way will i be able to get any J flights 1 week out from the actual day that we are due to fly. Especially around xmas time. I was was wrong that it only took approx 40hrs for 2 waitlist to clear one for this friday 16th Dec & 17th Dec. I have 2 choices in J but still bouncing the idea of expanding my mileage in Y to utilise this Westpac promo coupon. The saving of 38000 points does sound a little tempting. Will need to decide by tomorrow the latest. It seems SIA do release redemption flights closer to the date if unable to fill via commercial ticket.

SQ are quite helpful.I did call them and they informed me of all fees and charges. As long as you cancel your ticket more than 24hrs you will not have to pay $75 usd per tix. Only fee would be $30usd or 3000 miles per tix for redepositing the miles back into your account.

Good luck with your waitlist and hope it does come through for you.

The reality is that many people in T3 are either coming off an overnight or about to board one. Neat casual gear is important.

I've taken to changing into a comfortable tracksuit once I've boarded. Then when I get off my flight my street clothes have only been sitting in for a a couple of hours instead of slept in for 12 hours.

Thanks albatross710 i will ensure that we do take some comfortable clothing on board as well now that we have confirmed the 4 x J saver seats.

The refund for taxes with our Y class tix was actioned last night and I should see the monies within 1 week back in my CC. I received instant email notification from SIA confirming the refund for the taxes. Also, had to pay 120 usd total for 4 tix for the cancellation and redepositing of miles back into my account. Wasn't too fussed in the end considering I was able to snag J seats.

We managed to get row 20 which is the last row in J. Does anyone know if the seats in row 20 are restricted in any way on the 777-300 refitted model? Seat guru does not mention anything negative regarding row 20.
