Good to hear there’s hope for me next time. I was approved a year and a bit ago, but recently declined after being conditionally approved (not quite sure happened when they called considering my answers were consistent with the application).

So what happened? conditionally approved and they rang up and asked what?

Have been thinking about the 10% bonus and how to use those Amplify points.
Our next SQ Flight is in new Suites unless the plane gets subbed out so that will be a tester.
Mrscove still has a while to go as she was signed on later.
Back to reality with an Easyjet flight out of Madrid for London. We went for the extra legroom and that worked.

Ends on 23 Jan as noted in first link.

Bonus points promotion: The respective bonus points promotions are available when you apply and are approved for a new Amplify Signature credit card between 18th December 2018 and 23rd January 2019, and spend the minimum amount of $4,000 on eligible purchases on the credit card within 90 days from card approval. Eligible purchases do not include BPAY or BPAY equivalent transactions, fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, refunds, balance transfers debited from the card account, government fees and ATO payments. Existing customers who currently hold a Amplify Platinum or Amplify Signature card issued by St.George, Bank of Melbourne or BankSA, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer. The bonus points will be credited to your points balance within 12 weeks after the eligible spend criteria is met.

They asked two questions; 1) Have I paid my tax bill showing on my NOA: 'Yes'. 2) Was my investment prop. income included in my taxable income: 'Yes'. I would've though both of those were the expected answers???

and then they said you were declined?!
wow that sucks

I applied for this card back in November (perhaps under the previous offer). I received an e-mail that I was conditionally approved for $15K, I supplied my pay slips, then SILENCE.

When I sent them the "status" text it said I was declined and I would receive a letter. This is yet to come.
I phoned the call centre and they said I was over committed, but could not give me any details and I would have to go to a branch. So today I went to the branch (at great inconvenience) and they were none the wiser (but pleasant). They guessed that perhaps it was because my wife's income was not counted in the application and we have 2 dependents or that new rules meaning the full amount of my other credit cards are now taken into consideration. But they were not sure.

The upshot is that I now have a declined credit application on my credit report.

Newcomers to St George beware!

That is annoying!

If you dont mind... how often are you applying and cancelling?

Generally they dont/wont/cant, this is to ensure that both applicants and staff dont tweak applications to get them across the line, in order to circumvent the auto assessments. Bank managers with lending authority would be able to override the declines, thats why they have referred you to the branch, but unlikely they would do so for new customers, nothing in the deal for them unless its associated with other new business.

Staff can only guess the reasons why it was declined by looking at the data and comparing to their experience.

there is no such thing, appplication decisions are not reported. You have a credit card application enquiry on your credt report, and thats it.

there actually is nothing in this at all to beware about for St George specifically. This is normal for any bank, and more likely now with new assessment regulations that just kicked in.

Not getting any notification of being declined in a pretty big warning sign for me.

Appreciate the comments though.

The real lesson here is to control your credit limits and keep them as low as you can in order to limit your overall credit exposure. Better still, close unused cards and wait until they show as closed with the credit rating agencies before applying for a new card.

I mentioned this deal to a young lady near the end of December and I heard she had her new card several days ago. Now that is a get up and go person who wants to fly in a better class than baggage.
Not sure if this creates a lifetime of business and first class travel but it helps.

I applied following the original link from Dr Ralph at post #1. After a bit of back and forth proving my income, I was approved.

Picked up my card from the local branch today and it's GREEN; looks exactly the same as the base card (not the Signature).

So a couple of calls to St Geo and I am told that they were inundated with applications over Nov/Dec and have run out of the Black Cardso_O

Apparently I have bee sent a "temporary" card which will be replaced within 90 days:rolleyes: Also told I'm listed as "staff" so I wouldn't got my sign-on bonus if I hadn't called. (Never worked for them.)

Let's hope they get it sorted.

Caveat Emptor!

Didnt you see the covering letter advising they have run out of Black Cards?
Dont tell me they have now run out of covering letters!

I received a black card for my primary one in mid Nov but a green supplementary for my partner. The supplementary took a month to arrive. I then received another green supplementary one a couple of weeks later (same name, expiry & CVV) with the note that I'd get a black one within 3 months. I had to call them to stop sending me cards!

Early days but has anyone received the 100k bonus points yet?
