I have to make a last minute run to ADL (from SYD) either tomorrow or Tuesday and as I've missed out on a lot of SC's lately, figured I'd attempt a JASA.

The earning looks good if I route MEL-CBR-ADL (100SC) which will require a positioning flight to MEL. Unfortunatley the cheapest Y is pretty pricey, however Starclass on JQ29 doesn't look too bad.

I know a few of you make a habbit of using these Intl JQ services, so what is the general view on their ontime performance? It is due to arrive into MEL at 12:45, could I safely book a 15:25 QF departure? There is a 16:10 option as well.

I have looked at CBR-SYD-ADL, however flights into CBR are fairly expensive at the times I need to go.

Bit of a hit and miss in terms of OTP. I try to use this flight where I can, but 50% of time its delayed 1-2hrs ex MEL. In fact my last flight 2 weeks ago was delayed 5hrs so they just put me on a domestic.

I dont find the delays ex Sydney too bad.

Pardon my ignorance - how does one book into StarClass for domestic legs? Whenever I do a dummy booking on the Jetstar website it shows the international flights (ie leaving from the international terminal with correct flight numbers) but the highest fare class available is still JetFlex (no StarClass column).

Is this something that must be done via a call centre?

Hi windowseat,

There are only a few flights on select days that have star class. Yes they do leave from the INT terminal. There is no domestic star class. There is a spreadsheet with the flights and days.

Cheers,

Nick

I flew on one yesterday from MEL to SYD - I booked it online.

You need to select "Melbourne - Tullamarine" to get these flights to/from Melbourne (and also select a date on which they operate).

Thanks, my dummy bookings clearly just weren't on the right days :-)

I assume they post as businesss SC (ie 40 per leg) same as international StarClass? But FF points would be less due to no 1000 minimum guarantee on JQ?

I learn something new here everyday!

Ahem, 1,250 minimum for *Class

9.3.5 The Minimum Points Guarantee will be applied to all Eligible Flights that have a QF, JQ, 3K, VF, AA or BA flight number. The Minimum Points Guarantee is as follows:
(a) for Qantas (QF) and each Jetstar Airline (JQ, 3K and VF) - 1,000 Points for each Eligible Flight Segment travelled in Economy or Premium Economy class and 1,250 Points for each Eligible Flight Segment travelled in Business or First class or Jetstar StarClass, as applicable;

slightly OT but wondering if anyone has done a paid upgrade to *class on the domestic leg only of a JQi flight?

Even more OT ...

I was booked in *class MEL to SYD and transferred to discount Y on QF. Paid *class yet flew red edeal. JQ very silent on refund of fare difference, not to mention lack of SC's and miles!

Not happy JQ.

Sorry if this has already been answered in another thread, I haven't taken much notice of JQ in the last year! :)

But is Starclass (Business max or whatever it is) still offered on any domestic routes? If so which ones?

I need 200 SC's by end of Feb.

Yes - JQ 29/30/35/3 I think. But if you want SCs, you now have to pay for the Business Max fare, which makes the value for money substantially less than it used to be. Might be worth doing an optimised JASA or NAN run instead.

Was that a full fare as opposed to a JASA?

I tried to book a JASA BNE/xSYD/MEL on QF8 then JQ35 all in J however I could only get J on QF8 as the 'Business' availability column says "N/A" not "no seats". When I rang JQ they said no seats had been sold yet in J for that flight but as it was a redemption I would have to book with QF.

I thought of maybe booking a QF8 BNE/SYD then a QF domestic flight 400 & above in J then call them & try & change it to JQ35 but thought it would be too much of a drama if I couldn't & the whole purpose of the exercise was to do the Flounge run which needed the all important JQ35.

I ended up booking the QF8 in J in conjunction with a JQ starter fare in whY on the JQ35 sector so both flights cost me 24,000 plus AUD121.04. On the QF website there is no option for Melbourne-Tullamarine it only has Melbourne.

Yes - JQ 29/30/35/3 I think.

Tried searching the JQ site with every combination I could think of, but none come up with Business max fares..

Checked JQ29 it is MEL - BKK, which is international not domestic?

Full fare-booked; it about 14 months ago; flew about 53 weeks ago.

Would not do so these days as cost for the 40 SC's is now running at $480.

(Oh for the days when it was $240 )

Really? They're all MEL (Tullamarine) <-> SYD, distinguishable by the fact that they are the only flights with so-called 'Business' fares on sale. Check a variety of dates, as they're only available a few times per week.

Once you select Business, you're then prompted to add a package, which is an extra $80 it seems - $479 for a 40SC MEL-SYD J flight is not much better than QFd, and a far cry from the $239/$329 that the same route cost under the previous fare structures. Quite frankly, I wouldn't take these flights for SC runs, but rather for well-priced F lounging.

Exactly, forget travelling J on JQ, just get the cheapest whY fare (pricematch with Tiger) & if you're WP you can use the Flounge anyway.
