Hello everyone.

I have been an occassional lurker here for the last 5 years or so, but thought I had better introduce myself. Although I can read some of the acronyms that you use here, I am not too good at using them so my apologies for the non shorthand in my posts.

About 15 years ago I managed to earn many close to 500K QFF points through non-flying means and have slowly been using them. I am starting to get a bit low in them so for my New Year's Resolution I have decided to make this year one to chase points, so I thought I would rediscover this site.

I will probably remain a closet reader on and off, but I thought it was about time I said hello to you all.

I look forward to chatting to you.

Well I can't really welcome you as you were here before me! but welcome anyway!

Wow Rallygirl, that's a long time to be silent!

Congratulations on dipping your toe in the water and saying hello!

And don't worry; your opinion is likely to be considered, taken on board, scoffed at, ignored, valued, dismissed or ridiculed in exactly the same manner as the rest of us.:D

As you'd know, being a long time lurker, there is a vast body of knowledge on this forum about just such a subject. Be brave and open a few posts about how you are going about the FF earn - we never get sick of talking about this stuff :)

Thanks everyone. Actually I haven't been very active at lurking over the years. I think I would just look on here whenever I was considering a new credit card and that was about it. But I have just discovered the ATO payments thread and it has given me a new motivation in point acquiring.

Fantic125, I think I will be scoffed at, ignored, dismissed and ridiculed even more than you guys as I am one of those dreaded predominately leisure travellers, but my husband travels for work so I will try to ride on his airline status.

Now back to my lurking as I try to catch up on what I have missed over the last five or so years....

Hi all, I'm also a lurker and recently joined QF FF. My wife and I have been busily collecting points for nearly a year now and have QF visa and Amex cards. Also shop at woolworths and try to earn points where we can.

Our aim is to try and upgrade to a j seats on our next overseas flights, Possibly LAX. Anyone got any tips or tricks that I should know about? I understand being bronze means we have no status and therefore last to get upgrades.

Cheers, Darren

Wow a girl and quiet.

Anyway welcome and hope to get some tips off you to earn point and status credits.

Wow a girl and quiet

You know we do stay quiet occasionally so we can listen to your wise thoughts of the world :D

Seriously, I am hoping that I can give some advice one day but I am amazed at how many different approaches to schemes/cards/program's there are.

Hi Rallygirl

If you've had 500K QFF points to burn it would suggest you've done a bit of travelling. We always love to hear trip reports, and there is nothing wrong with putting in your 2c if someone asks about a destination which you've been to, or provide advice if someone talks \ asks questions about a scenario you've experienced.

Also I'm the same as nlagalle, I can't really say welcome, as you where here long before me... ;)

Hi rallygirl
Like you The vast bulk of my points have been from cards not from actual flying.
But being self employed means I put a lot of expenses through the card.
The trick is then to fly smart and accumulate the SC's as well. I am still learning though

Thanks harvyk. I would love to say I have lots of holiday exploits to tell you all about but many of the points have just been used domestically for last minute flights, or the ocassional domestic upgrades. We did travel to HKG on points once but would probably now try to book a JASA instead with points and get the SC for it.

Is this what you were referring to GPH when you referred to flying smart? I too am self employed - sort of (family business so need the approval of all first). This is how I got my initial points. There used to be an ANZ Qantas Telstra Visa that paid 6 points per dollar for mobile bills which I earned most of my points.

I did mention before that I am running out of points, but I am cautious by nature. I am now down to around 300K points but it feels like I am running low. By reading this forum my new goal is now to buy 3 x DONE4 tickets so I think I better start saving up those points again. :)

You are welcome rallygirl.
We don't fly often , we do try and watch for the deals with good SC's where possible however.

A belated welcome to AFF Rallygirl!

At least you have spent and enjoyed your points and not hoarding them like me. One of these days I will find the time for another round the world....
