A query re HH complimentary upgrades good people - depending on availability of course but what is general experience for Diamonds?

Upgrade 1 room category or 2 or 3 or to Suites if and where available?

Have next to no experience with booking Hiltons and am looking to book 6 nights in London late June / early July.

Don’t want took lowest level room and get stuck in dog box if no upgrades availablesto was kinda thinking heading to middle of the road room type which would be tolerable if upgrade did not eventuate. Peoples thoughts / experiences?

Is this as a Diamond?

Upgrades for Diamond HHonors guests may include the next-best available room from the room type booked. Upgrades may also be rooms with desirable views, corner rooms, rooms on high floors, rooms with special amenities, rooms on Executive Floors**, or suites, as identified by each property. Yes mate I saw that but was wondering is this indeed what happens in practice?

That's the minimum to expect.

Quite often more than that can occur - but it really is a case of varies experiences, mainly between properties.

There's some threads on FT with information on how different treat thier elite guests (including those in the UK). Maybe some of those AFF members who stay often in the UK can advise.

There doesn't appear to be a "standard", cf. IHG Royal Ambassador which gives a 2 level upgrade (which may include a suite if it comes to that).

Based on the reports in this thread for Australian Hilton properties, most Diamonds receive at least an Executive level room for any standard room. At the beginning of many people's Diamond memberships (based on a VA Platinum match :o), many Diamonds were receiving suites. So many, in fact, that it seemed to be a drop in the service if one did not receive a suite. A couple of properties were exceptions - Brisbane and Perth (and possibly Surfers Paradise) - but this is how it has been for a bit.

There's been a few instances of Diamonds getting less than an Executive room (perhaps the same as they've booked, just on a higher floor or a corner room). They still get Executive Lounge access if there is one, but that's probably cold comfort. I've heard some Diamonds complain in this case (especially if they go online and check if there are rooms in the higher category bookable); some on property when they lodge the complaint received an upgrade soon after the complaint is raised to the GM or equivalent level, some get it after using other methods (e.g. Twitter or Facebook). Some Diamonds on this board are complaining not receiving a suite (despite receiving an Executive level room).

As I posted previously. HSW management have stated to me that when possible they will give suite upgrades. The pecking order for suites is, paid guests, Diamond members who are regulars, other Diamond members etc...

This was evident at the Christmas party last year where there were more Diamond members in our group than there were suites. Look at who did and did not get suites and it fits the profile.

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

Any suggestions for alternatives greatly appreciated?

If your alternatives extend outside of the Hilton chain.......I can recommend Covent Garden Hotel & The Soho Hotel of the Firmdale group Firmdale Hotels

First class establishments that never disappoint.

The Trafalgar were excellent when I was there last year for 2 nights. All benefits, excellent manager who is always around. Highly recommended and great location

Re: How do Hilton treat you as an Elite?

I have been Hilton Diamond for 4 years - get a room upgrade about 90% of time especially at Hilton airports such as Boston-Heathrow Terminal 4 - Paris (de Gaule) - Waldorf in NY try extra hard for Diamond and have a special book in room for Diamond members - Waldorf in London can only be described as disappointing and needs a complete "make-over". I remain loyal to HILTON because I usually know what to expect and its so easy to book and cancel - just makes life a little easier.
