I had moved up from Velocity Gold to Platinum a few months ago and traveled last week on a reservation that was made before I moved up to Platinum.
On arrival at the airport there was a delay at checkin as I was advised I was over my checked baggage allowance.
I advised that I wasn't aware of any changes to platinum checked baggage and the person at the desk advised "you don't get platinum benefits unless you progress to platinum status"
Out comes the card to show her, however it didnt match what was in front of her and she then showed me the boarding pass and circled what said GOLD (among the 6 or so other things they circle on those things) 15 minutes later I was on my way.

So, it appears that if you have a change of status their system doesn't update existing reservations which may impact on those seeking lounge access etc.
There's no way I know of to update reservations and when I called they suggested airport staff would automatically know anyway, which they didnt.

I had to call the Velocity call centre to change all my bookings especially when going from red or silver to the next level so as to pick my seat 14 days out.
I also have asked at checkin to upgrade the status as they didnt do it automatically on the boarding pass.A few times they would change mine but not my partners in the end I gave up asking.

Although the system doesn't automatically update existing reservations made pre status increase, I think you just had a "bad egg" at the airport. I remember when I went up they could see the different status at the airport.

Happened to me on my recent trip to the USA when I checked in.

The agent simply deleted the FF details from the reservation and then scanned in my Platinum card and everything was ok.
