Hi guys,

I've read through a few posts about this as I look after a group of 4 guys in a band who have been recording all year and not flying anywhere. This is all about to change as they start touring again.

Last year they earnt about 1000 SC's and maintained Gold and this year it's currently at 150SC's, with another 230 before their account resets on October 31.

So my question to you, is do I call Qantas and explain that whilst they didn't maintain it this year, they definitely will the following year, or do I need to wait until the guys actually receive contact from Qantas first?

So 380SCs before y/e.
If you are lucky you will get an email from Qantas around end-Sep stating that it appears you may not requal and ask for all the flights you are planning on making in the next 12 months (helps if you have bookings in the system)
If you are really really lucky you may just get extended around two months out

Note. They appear to have been a bit more stingy on auto-renewals / letters more recently.

We've got about 200SC's worth of paid bookings in the system right now, but nothing past the Oct 31 date. Plenty of travel planned though, but we prefer waiting until the dates get a little closer before booking in case things change.

On this i had my SC reassessment on 31 Jul and was about 70 short of silver but would easily have met that requirement in the month - 6 weeks after my reassessment date. I emailed the FF guys at QF and they didn't want to know. Said i had to earn exactly the right number of SC's to qualify. I have paid QP membership and only really wanted silver to get a complimentary pass for a relative but they obviously weren't prepared to be flexible, or extend my reassessment date.

.... and the other extreme, I had my WP renewed last year with only 270SC :!:

yes, i can see it happens at times, but i'm guessing you have provided them a bit more revenue over the years than me at the end of my first year, all in discount Y so they'd be more likely to give you the benefit of the doubt.

From the anecdotal evidence I'm seeing at the moment, I believe Qantas still gives the benefit of the doubt to first time non-eligibles (as long as you have flown 4 Qantas segments in your year).

Second time and beyond seems to be against current Qantas renewal patterns - so if you fit into this category, watch out!

(Note these changes only seem to have been implemented in the last few months)

I'm due for assessment at the end of August. Sitting on 260 SC's so well sort of the 1200 required for WP renewal. So far, no please explain letter or renewal package. Maybe QF don't think it's even worth sending out a please explain letter and I'll just drop to SG.
Time will tell..

I'm surprised you haven't had a letter from them being that it's so close! Let us know what happens with it.

When I was comp'd WP earlier this year I received my new card ~ 3 months before my anniversary date and I was still well short of the required # of SC.

This was, however, before QF decided to more strictly enforce the requalification requirements.

So what happens if you have Platinum, but then dont fly at all during the next year, so no 4 sectors with QF, do you get the softlanding to gold, or all the way back to bronze?

Softlanding to Gold I've heard (and hope!)

Very worried about my parents renewal (as I usually travel with them)

There renewal is 31 Aug 07. One has 500 status credits and the other 40! No emails, calls or letters.... its disturbing

I am planning to undergo Gold therapy.... looks like no SYD FC lounge for me :(

I recently got demoted from Silver to Bronze when had earned 275 of 300 SC required, am a QP member, this does not seem to help.
Wrote a letter to QFF asking to be reinstated got the following reply by e-mail:

Hello Mr xx_xx_xx_

Thank you for enquiring about your membership status.
Unfortunately we were unable to keep your membership at the Silver level as you hadn't earned the necessary 300 status credits in your membership year.
A new card and kit will be sent to you in the next couple of weeks.
Mr xx_xx_X, I acknowledge your disappointment, but I hope you will
appreciate that we have to apply the conditions of the program consistently
across our large membership.

Yours sincerely

MY renewal for humble Silver is 31/8. About 1 month ago out of the blue I got a letter telling me I was ?? short but renewed to 2008 . My third Silver renewal. Irony is that I overshot by 30 pts this week anyway!:p

I don't think we can complain when Qantas applies the published terms and conditions for status qualification requirements. If they do provide renewal of current status prior to meeting the requirements, then that is very kind of them, but we should not come to expect that level of generosity.

If you end up a small number SCs short of renewal, then if you really want that status level renewed you should ensure you make the additional SC prior to the renewal date.

I agree fully with NM.

After 7 yrs of Gold I finally get WP, on 2 occassions was less than 200 short, but know of WP's who have been re-newed for less than SG, some more than once ! In fact one guy got it 7 yrs ago and hasn't had more than 600 pts a year since and is still WP.

Rules are rules.

Don't forget, though, that some animals are more equal than others!
