I've read lots of times discussions re earning sc's flying in the States. I try hard to understand it all but still find it confusing.

My ? is I'm thinking of flying sfo-jfk and fare quoted was Au$2188 and fare basis is kupp7zm (or something like that). Is this business or first and would the sc's be 60 or 120 each way?

If I did this I would put my qf down as partner to collect the sc. Am I on the right track or still haven't a clue?
Thanks.

status credits = sc's

Or do you mean to split miles and sc's, you cant do that.

Anyway yo just add you QF FF number to the AA booking and it will credit to QF.

A KUPP is an instant upgrade fare, so i am not really sure here but i think it will be J if its a 3 class service, and F if its a 2 class service.
I think AA have both 2 and 3 class planes flying JFK-SFO (MD8x and 757's being 2 class F and Y, and the 777's being 3 class, F, J, and Y)

I am sure somebody will better answer this in only moments.

SFO-JFK has one flight a day operated by a 763 at 07:45 ; the rest of the flights are operated by 3 class 762s

On the 763 it would book into 1st class but, assuming the fare allows travel on the 3 class services, would book into business on the 762

If wanting to travel at a time other than 0745, you may need to look at connecting via DFW or ORD. Be aware that if taking a connecting route, most services will be operated by smaller aircraft with a much less comfortable 1st class ( c.f. QF domestic J vs QF Skybed )

As Dave pointed out that would be a 762 & 763 i guess normally.
I have been on a 777 but i guess that was a planned substitution. or maybe i was thinking jfk-lax when i wrote what i did.
Usually my tactic is to fly via DFW so i can get more SC in F :) but sometimes i dont have the time or inclination and prefer the more direct route.

Slightly OT....

Can you have a domestic US 2-class flight on a DONE* issued in A, and then change to a 3-class flight and remain in A?

Obviously not intended, but as it's only a revalidation and not a reissue, I suspect you would get away with it.

I did a check on validity for the KUPP fare and is ineligable for use on the 3 class services (AA178, AA20, AA18)

The 763 service at 07:45 (AA24) is eligable for this fare and would earn 1st class SCs

No. If you change to a 3 class flight you will be rebooked in D . It is a reissue since it involves a change of booking class

I suspect you'd be able to make the change over the phone and they would just move you from A on one flight to A on another, without even thinking about it.

I don't like your chances, the AA phone people seem pretty clued up.
But that being said with the exception of some less SC's if crediting to QF it may be worth taking a risk since J is still ok on those flights, just like F on a 2 class i guess you could say. (Note i have not been on a 3 class 767 to know what they are like)

Also note that most of the connecting flights via ORD or DFW are likely to arring into LGA rather than JFK. There are not many DFW-JFK or ORD-JFK flights each day.

thanks for the replies but my brain must have been elsewhere when I wrote, I meant sfo-dfw. When I put in the details, it comes up first, so guess it means sc's will be for first class. The fare I saw on AA was abt. $2200 australian, and I think the s.c. each way is 120 pts., this seems better value to me than what I would pay in Australia, am I right?

How do I go about booking if I decide to do this? I looked at that fare compare site, I'm assumming it is in the us$. It was only slightly cheaper than booking through the aa site.
thanks again

I think its not a great price, First is like our domestic business, nice but not fantastic.

why is as low as $311 AUD when i looked in the next month
If i look for KUPP then i see as low as $1636 AUD
YUPP's all look like $2500.
Not my idea of cheap fares really.

For a good MR you either have to look to find an alternate airport to get the price down.
Since AA now don't have any YQ component now (or soon) there is no use extending your trip to visit some friends up north to see if you can get a better price that way, and was not often possible to fool AA with that anyway, that is the domain of UA MR'ers.

I check the US site first and use the price and schedule feature. If no business class offered then it is a 2 class plane and instant upgrade is to first. You can also click on flight details to see what plane and mileages.
If this is basically an SC run then when i checked they offered SFO-LAX-DFW at the same price as a direct so would mean 180 SCs each way rather than 120.
Once I have flight numbers then i check the aussie site though mainly my flights will be part of a DONE so no need. But having decided on the strategy of me crediting to AA and mrsdrron to QF to become WP then this may change though 1 DONE4 should get her easily to requal.
