I am travelling in the US on what is my review date back here in Australia and need to do a fair bit of travel on and around my review date (August 25).

Two questions:

Is August 25th the first day of my new year or the last day of my old year? (Given that it reads "Status Credits earned since 25 Aug 2015" i presume this is the first day of my new year?)

Does anyone know whether Virgin flights credit according to the calendar date or the time zone? Eg. If i travel on 24th August in the US but it is already the 25th here will it count in this year or last?

Basically, I have already requalified for Platinum, I have Family Pooled my other half to Gold for another year and any surplus status credits will be useless. I may be travelling less next year though so tweaking the dates and times to get some SCs in the bank (mainly good value delta premium economy) would be useful. But there's a 24-48 hour window where i'm a bit confused about which year the SCs would fall into.

Does anyone have any experience with this situation?

VA FF physical server location and time would most likely dictate when it ticks over. It would be worth a phone call in general to clarify.

When I flew to the UK once I changed status whilst in transit at Abu Dhabi.
On my return, the second sector still reflected as my original status so I sent them an email.
They responded that they would acknowledge the second sector at the higher level and could see this change on my account.
Plus as I was on Etihad they credited me the extra points too, which I didn't even think of.

Also, technically I would reference any time zone calculations in Queensland time as that's VA's HQ.

If you travel on the 24th in the USA the flight will credit with that date in your account regardless of what the time/ date of BNE is

While I don't know what VA do, I suspect this is the case. QF credit according to the scheduled date of departure. I assume that might be industry standard.

-I can confirm 100% that this is the same for VA . Where the confusion happens is the difference between processed date(the date points hit the account- this is always BNE date) and activity date (the date the activity happened ie flight) . This is one of the reasons for the hold period when your status review date is up. it is to allow activities that might be within that period to be processed.

Yup, that's correct, although I flew on AirNZ departing on the day before my review date and the credits didn't show up so I did a missing miles claim. They approved the claim but it didn't register in time to automatically renew my account at platinum, as the processed date was about six weeks after I'd flown. A quick email to them fixed it though and platinum restored. :-)
